Benazir Bhutto was central to American hopes of broadening out Pakistan’s government from the figure of General Musharraf. Washington helped engineer the political deal that saw her return and now it has seen that lead to disaster, with the loss of one of the key figures in its plan.

The US tried to broker an arrangement that would accommodate western objectives in the Central Asia region. The effort to squeeze Taliban and AlQaeda between two western influenced countries becomes clumsier every day. The entanglement of covert micro management has backfired once again. The US must employ even more corrupt leaders at the price of forfeiting human rights. Trying to inject a moderate ally into the poisonous mix created by the US is doomed. This most recent effort to manipulate Pakistani politics has failed faster than expected. The US is guilty of failing to see long term consequences to its interfering in foreign cultures.

By oversimplifying whole populations as inferior to western culture, the US and Britain have manufactured an angry and resentful world opinion. Much like the Spanish Christian inquisition of the 1400s, western governments have engaged in a political inquisition. In kind, our targets have justified their own inquisition, but, they call it Jihad. Every move western countries make justifies a counter move by an increasingly powerful force. Western arrogance has blinded reason and created poisonous foreign policies.

The accord, signed in the presence of Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, and Nursultan Nazarbayev, Kazakhstan’s leader, is a setback for Europe, which is courting Caspian producers for gas supplies to reduce its dependence on Russian imports.

Mr Putin said the Pricaspiysky pipeline would be “a serious investment by our countries in strengthening energy security, not just in Eurasia but more widely, bearing in mind our main consumers in west Europe”.

Totally ignoring western efforts to control fossil fuel products, Russia flexes it’s muscles. Like an athlete on steroids, Putin has taken the reigns for his country and forged allies into a powerful opponent to western fantasies of entitlement. Britain and the US have been mesmerized by a Camelot view of the world. This has evolved into a foreign policy of Grab-A-Lot. What is missing from this fantasy is respect for fellow inhabitants of this suffering planet. Interest in human rights and morality is applied selectively. The world watches Darfur with mild interest while destroying impediments to fossil fuel resources. Covert deals, supplying arms to both sides of a conflict, emphasizes the arrogance of entitlement and resulting bigotry motivating Britain and US actions.

Europe needs to increase its nuclear power capacity substantially to relieve its over dependence on gas, the chief executive of Edison has warned.

Umberto Quadrino, head of Italy’s second-largest utility, said there was serious trouble looming in European power supply. “If you look at the supply of gas to Europe over the next 15 years, we have to be scared.”

Europe desperately seeks energy alternatives. Because oil interests have suppressed growth of more rational energy policies for so long, western countries are getting a late start. The quick fix is nuclear. Now, the concept of ‘Grab-A-Lot’ is backfiring. Western interests fear nuclear development in other countries. This is a glaring example of short sighted foreign policy. Energy removed is energy that must be replaced … DUH! You would think that would be a factor considered by elite think tanks and global cabals who are supposed to plan the world’s future.

The industrialized countries’ oil watchdog has admitted that it has been paying insufficient attention to supply bottlenecks as evidence mounts that oil is being discovered more slowly than once expected.

Question mark over US estimates

The US Geological Survey is a US government-funded scientific body that studies, among other things, the incidence and growth of the world’s oil and gas reserves.

On current trends this would reduce USGS estimates of future oil reserves by 400bn barrels over the 30-year period, leaving a few industry analysts to predict that global oil production will peak before 2020.

Critics of the industry say the US approach is naive. They say the fact that the oil industry has to resort to venturing into more difficult terrain and continue co-operating with difficult oil-rich regimes is an indication that oil reserves are tightening.

Western interests have not paid attention to simple concepts. Foreign policy built upon ‘Grab-A-Lot’ has imperiled the world. Clash of cultures and human sustainability is a consequence of allowing self important, self indulgent, fantasy driven leaders to rule our lives. In smaller examples, civil wars and revolutions occur when corrections must be made. Each country is responsible for electing representatives who deal with the world. Populations who buy in to the entitlement fantasy will pay a dear price. The world is larger than any one country … the brainwashed population becomes so self important that they are blind to the world they occupy. The consequence of blind self importance is immanent. The world has had enough. Radical change for world order greets us with blood.

Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has condemned the suicide attack at a mosque in Charsadda in which at least 50 people were killed.

Musharraf expressed his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the attack and directed the law enforcement agencies to track down the perpetrators of the terror attack.

Musharraf said that “no true Muslim could even think of killing a large number innocent faithful, who had gathered to say Eid prayers”.

The schism in the Christian world, the schism in the Muslim world grow wider every day. There have been violent differences among both religions throughout their history. Judaism was the root for these two dynamic religions. Sibling religions appear bent on self destruction and mutually assured destruction for whatever the most recent charismatic leader decides?

Each religion bases it’s justification for attacking a sect of their own religion or another religion on interpretations of heresy. Heresy is in the eye of the most charismatic beholder, interpreter of scripture, loudest voice, most violent leader. Sibling religions spreading their words through violence, extortion and intimidation are despicable. Christians and Muslims killed and enslaved indigenous peoples throughout history because they truly believed that their victims were less than human. Each have their terrorists factions. Religious extremists that consider it their duty to kill non-believers. Even killing believers who disagree with their tactics. They would not be subject to the wondrous privileges granted to them by their prophet. Prophets bless and lead armies against other people, in the name of the god described by that prophet. Jesus and Mohammad would cringe at the mutations that have grown in their names. The god these prophets describe is not the god they emulate.

Foreign Fighters in Iraq Are Tied to Allies of U.S.

BAGHDAD — Saudi Arabia and Libya, both considered allies by the United States in its fight against terrorism, were the source of about 60 percent of the foreign fighters who came to Iraq in the past year to serve as suicide bombers or to facilitate other attacks, according to senior American military officials.

The data comes from a trove of documents and computers discovered in September, when American forces raided a tent camp in the desert near Sinjar, close to the Syrian border. The most significant discovery was a collection of biographical sketches that listed hometowns and other details for more than 700 fighters brought into Iraq since August 2006.

Documents recovered verified Saudis brought more money per person than fighters from other nations, the American officials said.

Among the Saudi fighters described in the materials, 45 had come from Riyadh, 38 from Mecca, 20 from Buraidah and the surrounding area, 15 from Jawf and Sakakah, 13 from Jidda, and 12 from Medina.

American officials publicly expressed anger over the summer at Saudi policies that were destabilizing Iraq. Sunni tribal sheiks in Iraq who risked their lives to fight extremist militants also faulted Saudi clerics.

“The bad imams tell the young people to go to Iraq and fight the American Army, because if you kill them or they kill you, you will go to paradise,” Sheik Adnan Khames Jamiel, a leader of the Albu Alwan tribe in Ramadi, said in an interview.

One senior American diplomat said the Saudi government had “taken important steps to interdict individuals, particularly military-aged males with one-way tickets.”

According to the rosters found in the raid, the third-largest source of foreign fighters was Yemen, with 68. There were 64 from Algeria, 50 from Morocco, 38 from Tunisia, 14 from Jordan, 6 from Turkey and 2 from Egypt.

Yet, the US continues to send millions of dollars and millions of its own weapons to the center of the crisis … then proceed to loose track of them. Funny, the supporters of insurgents appear to have an unlimited supply of money and weapons. Hummmmm. Follow the dots …the World Arms trade is big business. The bottom line is; the weapons business needs armed conflict to feed its profit line. You might call these misplaced weapons, free samples. This allows the US military to order more expensive weapons. Weapons kill. Killing causes grief. Grief causes retaliation. Retaliation is self propelled conflict escalation. More weapons needed. This is a Wall Street dream. Weapons research and development, more sophisticated armaments and increasing demand is the goal of war profiteers.

Pentagon arms its enemy’s enemies in Iraq The US high command this month gave permission to its officers on the ground to negotiate arms deals with tribal elders and other local leaders. Arms, ammunition, body armour and other equipment, as well as cash, pickup trucks and fuel, have already been handed over in return for promises to turn on al-Qaida and not attack US troops.

An unconscious American public has let it all slip away. This horse has no reins and an idiot for a rider. Do we really think the terrorists want to “follow our troops home”? Why would they want to do that unless we fund their efforts, ourselves? They want us out of their lives. Al Qaeda will continue to thrive and gain support, because we reinforce their mantra every day we remain in their back yard. We are clumsy. We burn the forest down to cut down one tree. State Dept. Tries Blog Diplomacy

The State Department, departing from traditional public diplomacy techniques, has what it calls a three-person, “digital outreach team” posting entries in Arabic on “influential” Arabic blogs to challenge misrepresentations of the United States and promote moderate views among Islamic youths in the hopes of steering them from terrorism.

The department’s bloggers “speak the language and idiom of the region, know the culture reference points and are often able to converse informally and frankly, rather than adopt the usually more formal persona of a U.S. government spokesperson,” Duncan MacInnes, of State’s Bureau of International Information Programs, told the House Armed Services subcommittee on terrorism and unconventional threats on Thursday.

“Because blogging tends to be a very informal, chatty way of working,” MacInnes said, “it is actually very dangerous to blog.” So State has a senior experienced officer, who served in Iraq, acting as supervisor and discussing each posting before it goes up. “We do not make policy,” MacInnes added.

The State Department team’s approach is to join a blog’s conversation, often when it turns to the motivation for U.S. policy toward Iraq, and when others are claiming that the U.S. occupation is meant to help Israel or to secure oil. “Our job is to address that motivation issue and show them that that’s not the motivation,” MacInnes said.

“You can’t just say, ‘Well, here’s our policy,’ and drop it into the blog. You have to have what I call a bridge,” MacInnes said. He then described using a sporting or current event or even poetry that would “allow one to get to be in a conversational mode with people.”

Even though the State Department employees were not going into hard-core terrorist sites, the worry, MacInnes said, was that after identifying themselves and using their own names, “we would be, in the parlance of the Internet, ‘flamed’ when we come on” — meaning their entries would be subjected to intense attacks.

Toning down the inflammatory rhetoric at this stage is kind of moot.

“When we say ‘Islamo-fascism,’ whether the term has a meaning or not, what they hear is ‘war on Islam,’ okay — ‘attacking my religion,’ ” MacInnes said.

He described the phrase as “a verbal equivalent of poking a stick in somebody’s eye . . . and [Osama] bin Laden has been very good at taking our words and turning them around to his advantage by saying, ‘See, they’re actually at war with Islam.’ ”

President Bush has not used the phrase recently.

What a concept. Talk to the “other side”. Listen to their complaints and try to address their concerns and anger. Whether their anger is real or taught, many “new” terrorists are revenge motivated for death or injury to their families. After the wildfire is out of control, the State Department locks and loads its squirt guns. I really hope this effort is successful. But, common sense tells me that the curtain has already been pulled back on the Wizard. All I hear is, “ignore that man behind the curtain”.

Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) director IA Rehman told the BBC that Pakistan was in danger of becoming a “Gestapo state” if such disappearances were to go unchecked.

Human rights workers in Pakistan have demanded the release of one of their leading workers who they say has been detained by government officials. Akhtar Baloch, the Sindh province co-ordinator of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) disappeared in Hyderabad after a commission meeting.

Mr Rehman said the government had not tried to interfere with the work of the commission, but added: “Pakistan is not what it was one year ago… Now there is more pressure from the opposition and in this situation the establishment will become less tolerant.”

The Pakistan government should immediately release thousands of lawyers and opposition activists detained across the country in a crackdown after military ruler General Pervez Musharraf suspended the constitution and imposed a state of emergency on November 3, Human Rights Watch said today. Human Rights Watch has received credible reports from government officials requesting anonymity that bar association officials and lawyers have been mistreated in detention.

Rashid Rehman, Human Rights Lawyer, hears stories such as (rape victim) Najma’s and fears what lies ahead for Pakistan. In the car on his way back to his office in the Punjabi city of Multan, he sits in the dark, looking out the window at the feeble lights of passing villages. When he speaks, he is calm and clear. “When government fails them, people get angry,” he says. “They lose faith in the system and look for alternatives. Think how easy it would be for the Islamists—or Taliban or al Qaeda—to go to the brothers of this girl now and say, ‘What happened to your family is not justice. This man dishonored your sister, he dishonored your father and your family name. Join us and we will help you get justice. We will make him pay.’ When citizens are denied their basic human rights, they become radicalized. When people are powerless, they are easily manipulated. The world is not alarmed at the despicable actions occurring anywhere, but in their own back yard. Only when a threat spills over into their territory do they take notice. This Pakistani Democracy the United States and Britain helped to create is falling apart.

Former member of the National Assembly and Chairman World Jehad Council, Javed Ibrahim Paracha had just returned from the Peshawar High Court, after defending Osama Bin Laden’s Quranic teacher. Paracha is now a tribal leader from a village called Dhara Dhar, near Tora Bora in Afghanistan. As the head of the World Prisoners Relief Fund, he had a reputation for repatriating suspected Al Qaeda militants to their native countries.

Paracha had been expecting the question. Enjoying the dramatic effect of his narrative, he told me that a government official had indicated to him that two of Bin Laden’s children – from multiple marriages – were studying in a school in Hyderabad. “Why he’s in Washington, where you are!”

Today, the resurgence of the Taliban gives credence to the fact that U.S. and Pakistan military policies have served to strengthen intolerance and promote Islamic militancy in the region. That should give policy makers pause to reflect on just where the U.S. and Pakistan have gone wrong in the ‘War on Terror.’

American Politics, American Economics, American Delusions have wrought the whirlwind. Oil is what Gold used to be. Reason dies at the hand of greed. This time the planet is at stake.

WASHINGTON: The US appears to be preparing for different eventualities as the political crisis in Pakistan deepens, according to a report in the New Times on Tuesday.

One US official told the newspaper, “Nobody is ready to cut him (President General Pervez Musharraf) off at the knees yet.” But another official, who requested anonymity because he was not authorised to speak publicly on the issue, said that many people within the administration were worried that General Musharraf’s missteps would soon erode his base at home that he could be forced to give up power.”

The US is finally looking ahead to possible outcomes. What “possible” responses is the US planning. I’m afraid to guess …

LAHORE/LONDON (Reuters) – Pakistani police put opposition leader Benazir Bhutto under house arrest for a week on Tuesday as the Commonwealth threatened suspension unless President Pervez Musharraf repealed a state of emergency.

Army chief Musharraf set off a storm of criticism when suspended the constitution, sacked most judges, locked up lawyers, rounded up thousands of opposition and rights activists and curbed the media.

The Commonwealth, a 53-member body consisting mainly of former British colonies, gave Musharraf until November 22 to end emergency rule and take other steps to address his country’s problems, or Pakistan would face suspension.

“Our plan is on. Definitely she’ll try to come out. Since 1951, the United States Agency for International Development has provided nearly $7 billion to support Pakistan’s development efforts. This assistance has strengthened the political, economic and cultural ties between the two nations.

Since before 1951, the US has had it’s hands in Pakistani affairs. The US has basically groomed this diverse country as an extension of it’s influence in the area. Just like Saudi & Egypt & India, Pakistan has been groomed and manipulated to assist US wants and needs. This arrangement has caused much resentment among segments of the population. Those unhappy segments are the terrorists we created. The same terrorists that resent the leaders the US bought and paid for. The US has figuratively ‘broken the camel’s back’. US influence is now so volatile that we contaminate everything we touch … even though we delude ourselves that our way of living is a gift to our allies. Our politicians have sold the humanitarian motive to it’s constituents. But, we watch aghast, as spectators at a horror movie while Pakistan disassembles before our eyes. Aghast, because the nukes the US, Russia and Europe have helped them build are now at risk of falling into the hands of those unhappy factions we created. The responsible parties to this dangerous tragedy must acknowledge the mess it has made and attempt to reconcile. Bhutto and Musharraf are polar opposites that we have tried to combine. The only common ground is their willingness to deal with the US … but we have made them impotent and they struggle on their interpretation of Democracy.

While the knee jerk western world thinks that “Sanctions” can stop the infighting, sanctions would be more inflammatory. The Pakistanis have their own lives to live – the city mouse and the country mouse live in two different worlds. They are at odds already, this political horror flick may be the final spark that erupts into a conflagration of Civil War. From Civil War to World War Three, the world has a lot at stake here. Real solutions are not forthcoming. Strong arming this situation is NOT a solution.

LYBIAN GROUP JOINS AL QAEDA

Al Qaeda second-in-command Ayman al-Zawahri said a Libyan Islamist group had joined the militant organisation and he urged mujahideen in North Africa to topple the leaders of Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco.

“Today, with grace from God, the Muslim nation witnesses a blessed step … Honourable members of the Fighting Islamic Group in Libya announce that they are joining the al Qaeda group to continue the march of their brothers,” Zawahri said in a recording posted on Saturday.

The Libyan group would be the second militant organisation to join al Qaeda this year after Algeria’s armed GSPC said in January it had won approval from Osama bin Laden to rename itself Al Qaeda Organisation in the Islamic Maghreb.

Just today, Bush made his case to confirm Judge Mukasey in his radio address: “In a time of war, it is vital for the President to have a full national security team in place — and the Attorney General is a key member of that team. The Attorney General is America’s top law enforcement officer, with critical responsibilities for preventing terrorist attacks and protecting our Nation.”

Oh yes. The hearts and minds of those poor folks we expected to throw roses onto the liberating forces are surely genuflecting at our occupation. They are so grateful for the sloppy bombs our air attacks provide. They trust the discretion of the American occupation forces who cannot tell a Sunni from a Shi’a. Americans, who have no preparation for the culture they have invaded, are insulting a heritage that existed thousands of years before America was a twinkle in someone’s eye. The more collateral damage, the more terrorists we create. This happens everywhere we send our forces. I blame the training. I blame the administration who accepts collateral damage as acceptable. From careful to careless we create our own enemies from what used to be our friends. Where did all those imaginary “surgical strikes” go? Why are we still so sloppy? This administration gives poor lip service to the orphans, widows and refugees it has created. Thank you George Bush for making sure a new generation of enemies will be available for your wondrous World War Three. You are fulfilling a sick prophesy at the expense of the planet.

The louder these sabers rattle the closer we get. This will be a no win event that spans years. Hello war, goodbye oil. With the US dragging it’s feet preparing affordable alternative powered transportation; this country could be stuck in place. Transportation costs will go through the roof and take our daily commodities with it. Will you get a raise to offset your trip to work? Will your city, county or state provide mass transportation to get workers to their jobs? Here in Texas, mass transit is a novelty in a couple of cities. This country will face an episode that will surpass WWII rationing. If you are not up to the strain, step away from sections of the ballot box that has Mass Destruction as a consequence. If this administration pulls the trigger before it leaves office, you will know what your grandparents went through, you will also find you are less prepared than they were.

US regular troops are weary and stretched to the limit, their equipment is in sad shape. Bush’s Private Armies are very very expensive, so is their private equipment. A call to defend the US will be left to the new recruits and what is left of the National Guard and any equipment they managed to salvage. Natural disasters are taking their toll, man made disasters, like roads and bridges, are in sad shape. So much money is being borrowed, from foreign sources, to fund this administration’s folly, that the US will be paying it back for generations. You will re-live what your great grandparents endured during the Great Depression. Step away from sections of the ballot box that has Great Depression as a consequence.

Israel consulted US before Syria strike, report says
Israel’s decision to launch an air strike against a suspected nuclear site in Syria allegedly set up with the help of North Korea came after Israel shared intelligence with the US, it was reported today.
Binyamin Netanyahu, yesterday confirmed in a TV interview that such an attack did take place. His admission came despite a news blackout over the incident.

“We need to follow what is happening in Pakistan closely and carefully,” a top defense official warned recently. “There is a real possibility that one day we will wake up and discover that Musharraf has been toppled, and that Islamic radicals have taken over Pakistan.”

As for Iran, Israel is currently at a crossroads regarding its policy. On the one hand, the defense establishment, though skeptical, is still hoping that President George W. Bush will send his air force to eliminate the threat. On the other hand, diplomatic circles are talking about a deal that Bush and Olmert are busy crafting: In exchange for the US taking care of Iran for Israel, Israel delivers on the Palestinian issue.

Al-Qaeda in Iraq Lauds Death of Anbar Foe 

A statement posted on the Web site of the Islamic State of Iraq , an umbrella group believed to have been formed by al-Qaeda in Iraq, celebrated the killing of Abu Risha, whom it described as President Bush’s “dog.” A tribal coalition led by Abu Risha had fought against al-Qaeda in Iraq for the past year in Anbar province, leading to a dramatic drop in violence, and Abu Risha met with Bush this month during his surprise visit to Iraq.

“This blessed operation comes at the beginning of the month of conquest and victories so that it will be a new setback to the crusader’s project and the crusader Bush’s new strategy,” the statement said, referring to the beginning of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. The authors also warned that they would assassinate other tribal leaders.

This is great inspiration to potential collaborators.  We also have a great track record protecting common Iraqi collaborators, like our translators.  We are taking so long helping our loyal Iraqis,  that they are being killed off faster than our bureaucracy can operate.  Is this deliberate?  Ask Bob Woodward how hard it was to locate and evacuate the Iraqi that saved his life.  There is too much shame to go around.
