American should be ashamed of what we have become, gun toting, hate mongering Neanderthals.  This behavior didn’t start in the last election, this violent disrespect for each other started during the Clinton administration and has escalated.  Yesterdays shooting in Arizona is the result of the divisive behavior, misguided political agendas and lies told by  members of both parties, including the Tea Party, public figures and the talking heads in the media.  At the present time we don’t know if the shooting was politically motivated however, the political climate in this country has hit the abyss.

We are continually pointing fingers at each other, continually shouting, continually spewing incorrect information, continually exhibiting disrespect. This has now become a national pastime. It appears that we can no longer have a civil conversation or find civil ways to solve our differences. We are now a nation with contempt for each other. Disrespect for government, our institutions, civil servants and elected officials is out of control.

As the families in Arizona are trying to get their heads around what has happened to them, the hate mongering continues. While the victims of the shooting are recovering, as Congresswoman Giffords fights for her life, and as  funerals are being planned, the level of  disrespect, that some in this nation have, defy logic and humanity. Westboro Baptist Church will protest the funerals of the Arizona victims. Not only are they bat shit crazy, the information in their video praising the shooting in Arizona is incorrect. They state the shooter is an Afghanistan war hero. I think not! The Army denied his application. The flier posted on their web site disgustingly states the following:

THANK GOD FOR THE
SHOOTER-6 DEAD!
WBC WILL PICKET THEIR
FUNERALS!

Their flier continues:

God appointed this rod for your sins! God sent the shooter! This hateful nation unleashed violent veterans on the servants of God at WBC–hoping to silence our kind warning to obey God and flee the wrath to come.

Interestingly enough Congresswoman Giffords recently read the First Amendment on the House floor last week which gives these bat shit crazy people the right to have their day. No matter how disgusting it may be.

Some in Congress have made their sole agenda the failure of our President, and to make Obama a one term president. Really, that’s what Congress is there for? I actually thought the purpose of Congress  was to tend to problems of our country. This one term declaration has done nothing to move us forward, instead it has continued to fuel discord at full stop.

In Oct Think Progress posted Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell interview with the National Journal

• Believing that the Republican strategy of opposition has played to his political benefit, McConnell is pledging to do more of the same if Republicans win back the Senate. In an interview with the National Journal’s Major Garrett, McConnell candidly acknowledged that he feels his “single most important” job is to defeat President Obama in 2012:

• MCCONNELL: We need to be honest with the public. This election is about them, not us. And we need to treat this election as the first step in retaking the government. We need to say to everyone on Election Day, “Those of you who helped make this a good day, you need to go out and help us finish the job.”

• NATIONAL JOURNAL: What’s the job?

• MCCONNELL: The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.

Public figures like Palin who put targets on members of Congress and who continually encourage aggressive behavior, have to be held accountable for their behavior, since it effects large numbers of people both rational and irrational. This is not to suggest that Palin’s “target map” caused the shootings, but it is to say that actions and statements by public figured have consequences, no matter how remote.

Fox News with their deliberate lies and continually spewing of hate, racism and ill fate to public figures continues to fuel dangerous fires. Beck who daily spews incorrect information from sources of his own making.

Fox News has, of course, been leading the charge, embarking on what Jonathan Chait calls “the most widespread and mainstream right-wing effort to exploit racial fears against Obama.” Glenn Beck nonsensically claimed that the New Black Panthers “have ties to the White House” and flat-out accused the administration of tacitly endorsing the “race war” he sees coming down the pike. Perpetually outraged Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, the “straight news” driving force behind the bogus story, has been corrected on the facts more times than should be necessary, but continues to hype the story with wide-eyed indignation.

• Take the case of Fox News contributor Liz Trotta. During a May 2008 segment on the Democratic presidential primaries, Trotta actually remarked that she wished somebody would “knock off” both Osama Bin Laden and then-candidate Barack Obama:

Media Matters Kilmeade “misspoke” about “all terrorists” being “Muslims” — twice

• Fox & Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade made the clearly false claim – twice – that “all terrorists” are Muslim.

Media Matters has tracked Fox News and has a laundry list of misguided news, hate and made up crap.

The ridiculous obsession of some with Obam’s birth certificate. The obsession with guns and the thought of the the second amendment being touched is unpatriotic.

Even now we continue to pick each other apart.  Sheriff Clarence Dupnik has come under fire from local radio shows for stating a fact.

“When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government,” said Dupnik at a press conference Saturday. “The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous. And unfortunately, Arizona I think has become sort of the capital. We have become the mecca for prejudice and bigotry.”

However, Right-wing radio host Jon Justice, who is on KQTH FM 104.1 in Arizona, has called for Dupnik’s resignation and taken issue with the sheriff’s singling-out of talk radio. Give me a freaking break!

We are so busy dissecting each others, both parties lying about each other and people shooting anyone who doesn’t agree with them we are not focused on the big problems. We are destroying ourselves and our country and in the end we will blame each other. Because as you know we Americans don’t take responsibility for our own actions it is always some one else fault. That is after all who we have become.
