I’m Sick Of War
During the election Obama talked about Afghanistan being the right war and Iraq was wrong headed. All wars are the wrong war. All wars are wrong headed. Obama made these statements to get the left believing we will leave Iraq and focus on the right war, Afghanistan. For the right, Obama was a war guy. It boils down to pandering.
Everyone was behind Obama’s pre election declarations, but now that Obama is sending troops again, everyone is sick of war. Sorry, but everyone should have been sick and tired of war when Bush was sending troops to Iraq and running up the national debt. Everyone should have been sick and tired of war when Rumsfeld talked about shock and awe. Everyone should have been sick of war 8 years ago and 5,130 dead soldiers ago.
We are a war nation. No way to get around it. The US has been is some kind of war whether declared or not since the Revolution. Not to mention all the wars fought by American Colonist. And yet we call ourselves “a peaceful people.”

How many walls do we need?

I was born in 1935 and my earliest memories are World War II related. I also knew people and had family members who were World War I veterans with vivid memories of the “threat” of the Kaiser and Prussian militarism. In retrospect, counting the “cold war”, I think maybe the nearest thing to “sustained peace” in my lifetime was the period from VJ day in September 1945 to the beginning of the Berlin Airlift. I so agree with you. I am SICK of wars and rumors of war and I am so tired of the posturing and warmongering of my fellow citizens and leaders of my once beloved nation. I don’t really want to leave this plane of existents so disillusioned and feaful for any future that might be avaliable to my grandchildren. I want to turn “old glory” upright again rather than my upside down nation in distress display. I want to once more get a real lump in my throat when I hear “The Stars and Stripes Foever.” I guess I want too much.

Jerry:
Agreed. People in this country have a very short memory for the realities of war and the lack of sustained peace this country has truly had. Maybe it’s because people don’t bother with history or they think it irrelevant or boring. However they will hang on every piece of political propaganda.
In the life span of this country, the four year span from VJ day in September 1945 to the beginning of the Berlin Airlift is a nano second in time. I suppose to some that’s a long time. For me I see 200 plus years of conflict and wars. That’s a sad statement for a “peace loving people.”
Thanks for your comment.

I’ve been posting information like this for years and heartily agree. Those who consider Obama different than Bush just are not paying attention. Three times now I have been incensed at the spectacle of the leader of the nation that has more troops in others’ countries getting a prize that mocks peacemaking and blogged about the outstanding farce of it.
Slowly I have been clawing my way to understanding.

Even that does not account for the destruction of water supply and seed stocks.
