Hey McCain, Sarah Palin Could Face Impeachment As Governor
It appears that her possible abuse of power includes her husband Todd Palin, leaning on the Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan to fire his ex-brother-in-law. This is how John McCain plans on changing the face of the GOP? Good move John. Did your team even vett both Palin’s? Hey John, did you miss the controversy and investigation that had been going on in Alaska for month or so?
Back in late July the legislative council approved $100,000 to investigate Governor Palin’s potential abuse of power. Since, special investigator Steve Branchflower has been working methodically to bring to light the facts of a case that have only recently surfaced.
- “The status of the investigation is that Steve Branchflower is taking statements right now from former members of the administration, and scheduling other appointments with other members of the administration, up to, and including Governor Palin to find out the facts of what happened,” said Senator Hollis French, who is in charge of the legislative investigation of Palin.
- Branchflower is looking into the events that led up to the firing of former public safety commissioner Walt Monegan. It is alleged that Monegan may have been fired for refusing to fire Alaska State Trooper Michael Wooten, who went through a messy divorce with Palin’s sister and is currently in the midst of a custody battle.
- Regardless of Palin’s status as the vice presidential nominee, many are calling for the investigation’s continuance, “There is too much information to just erase it as a mistake,” said Senator Lyda Green, a Republican from Wasilla, “It needs to be followed through very diligently, very carefully.”
- “The fact is the investigation will continue to go on regardless of governor Palin’s position as the vice presidential nominee,” said Andrew Halcro, who ran against Palin for governor in 2006.
Todd Palin’s Involvement
In interviews last month with KTUU, Monegan said Todd Palin pressured him numerous times to fire Wooten, but Todd Palin said they had had only one discussion
“I met with Commissioner Monegan, showed him some information about Wooten and left it at that,” Todd Palin said.
Palin Response and Evidence:
Then, on Aug. 13, Sarah Palin called a news conference to acknowledge that the Law Department investigation had found that 14 members of her administration made more than 20 calls to Monegan and other public safety officials regarding Wooten since she became governor in 2006.
Among the evidence was an audiotape of a telephone call in February to a state troopers lieutenant by Frank Bailey, Palin’s director of boards and commissions. In the tape, Bailey says the Palins are puzzled why Wooten remained on the job.
“Todd and Sarah are scratching their heads, why on Earth hasn’t — why is this guy still representing the department?” Bailey said on the tape.
Palin called the tape a “smoking gun”
Depositions are being lined up:
Palin is likely to be deposed soon in the case, according to State Sen. Hollis French, who leads the state Senate’s Legislative Counsel Committee.
“I saw e-mails from [independent investigator Stephen] Branchflower two days ago to the Department of Law saying it’s time to schedule a deposition of the governor, her chief of staff and the attorney general who had some contact with the case,” French tells ABCNews.com.
In a recent Wall Street Journal article, July 31st to be exact, of impeachment of Palin came up again. I guess the McCain staff missed this in the vetting or maybe McCain considers 6 weeks the distant past.
“This is a governor who was almost impervious to error,” says Hollis French, a Democratic state senator. “Now she could face impeachment, in a worst-case scenario.”
Good job Johnny. Al least McCain is consistent on one thing, lack of judgment.
