PUMA, Was It Ever About Hillary Clinton
As I read some of the PUMA blogs and comments, I was truly disgusted at the level of their hatred, not just for Obama, the media, and the DNC, but for Hillary Clinton. Hatred for Hillary, are you kidding? I kid you not. Just think for one minute, it’s not a stretch, Hillary supporters had many reasons for getting behind her. At the convention Hillary gave her speech, and asked all 18 million supporters to help her put Obama in the White House, because four more years like the past eight years is not an option. And yet, PUMA’s have hailed John McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin as historic. According to PUMAs John McCain gets it and they will do everything in their power to put Palin in office. So, you have to ask yourself, just how loyal were PUMAs to Hillary Clinton. I’d say not much. PUMAs are exhibiting a high level of disrespect to Hillary and her request for full support.
You have to wonder something else, were these PUMAs really on board with Hillary? Or, were PUMAs only interested in getting any woman in the Executive Branch? I think yes. It appears to me, that Hillary could have easily been any woman running, issues and platforms are of no concern to PUMAs. Think I’m kidding? PUMAs put this video on youtube: “PUMAs for Palin: Clinton’s 18 Million PUMA Democrats support McCain-Palin.” Even though they flash pictures of Hillary, near the end of this 6 minute video, it becomes clear that their cause is only about gender. Not issues, just gender. Through all this, they show just how disingenuous their support of Hillary really was.
Not only do I find that stunning, I find it myopic. We have two wars going on, an out of control economy, gas and food prices breaking their own glass ceiling, and the PUMAs only concern is getting a woman elected as Veep. Total disregard for the world around them! Total disregard for social issues and failed foreign policies, total disregard for our soldiers, veterans and wounded warriors and total disregard for Hillary Clinton. They are only concerned with gender. I am disgusted.
Issues are not relevant to the PUMA cause; on LGBT issues both McCain and Palin are against gay marriage, gay adoption and gay rights in general. Yet, PUMAs argue, so is Obama, because he did not attend any gay pride parades. That’s right, PUMAs measure social change and justice on who attends parades.
On Abortion; McCain and Palin are both pro-life, so how do PUMAs reconcile these major issues. They stood and applauded Hillary and her pro-choice stand. Were they mocking her?
Don’t be fooled the PUMAs are organized, they even have a PUMA PAC . While they still go by PUMA, they have changed their name from Party Unity My Ass to People United Means Action. On August 30th, they launched their own political party; The New Democratic Party. I find their purpose (laid out below) schizophrenic, considering they openly support and have openly said will vote for the McCain/Palin ticket

WE MUST PREVENT A REPUBLICAN TAKEOVER OF THE ELECTORATE.
As I question their loyalty to Hillary, I think about the record breaking turnouts for the Democratic primaries. ABCNews did a story about Republicans turning out for Hillary in Pennsylvania. Record turnouts in Texas made many question Republicans crossing party lines. So I started wondering, if some of these PUMAs are really Republicans and were never really part of the Democratic Party. No, I am not into conspiracy theories. And yes, that think this is schizophrenic, considering what PUMA states above. It just strikes me as odd that PUMAs embraced McCain so easily. They praise him on their sites, they do TV campaign ads for McCain and they work for his campaign. For me that’s odd. Personally, if I was as pissed off as they are, I would probably not be voting for anyone. It would be very difficult for me to become a hypocrite, and vote for someone who stood against everything I worked for, out of spite.
So, in these very dangerous times we live in, I ask you to also wonder how PUMAs can dismiss the world around them, the future of this country, our soldiers and Hillary Clinton and make this very important election just about gender.

Let me make one huge point this post is not about Obama, nor has this blog endorsed Obama, nor has this author ever stated who they are voting for. Staying focused and keeping on point would be nice.
Second: The post is not about Palin’s experience or whether or not McCain made the right choice.
Third: The post was about PUMA and their loyalty to Hillary Clinton. Which I might add you never discussed.
To address your arguments about Obama:
1)Major political speech writers and speech analyst from both parties highly credited his speech. Maybe you should read it.
2)Rezko is a tired old story and a non started. Rezko was also friends of the Clinton’s and visited the White House during the Clinton administration. Also please spell his name correctly.
3)If you knew anything about politics,the convention process and the presidential election process you would not ask this question;
“Barack Obama won the Primary so why is it up to Hillary to unite this party,, Why are they asking Her,is this all she can do”
4)Your statement: “He done Nothing”
I suggest you read about his years (1997-2004) as an Illinois Senator.

I suggest you start reading what Alaskans are saying, they are very shocked especially the Alaskan politicians.

I suggest you start educating yourself on the political process and politics and not rely on talking points or parroting misinformed people. Getting one’s knowledge solely from main stream media is obvious.

Barack Obama has 11 years of legislative experience. Beginning in city politics, then moving on to the Illinois state senate and finally, the United States senate.
Sarah Palin, served two terms each as city council member and then mayor of tiny Wasilla, Alaska before becoming governor. But unlike Obama, Palin is under state investigation for her very own troopergate scandal.
And wait until the mainstream media gets ahold of the story that Sarah Palin isn’t the mother of her infant child — but instead, is actually the child’s grandmother. You see, it was Palin’s unwed, 16 year old daughter who gave birth to the infant and Palin embarked on an elaborate cover-up pretending to be the mother.
This ought to play real well with the Republican country club set.

i don’t think it’s a leap to think that these pumas were really conservative dems or republicans. with all of the crossing over this election- the only way to truly tell is by actions and beliefs. they pay lip service to democratic ideals and then try to undermine them. as a matter of fact, if they were truly interested in a woman as president they would be stumping for cynthia mckinney. but that would mean putting their racism aside. she has an african american vagina.

Hey there. I agree with you on McKinney. When I was at some PUMA sites I only recall one PUMA stating that she was voting for the Green Party. With their very troll like words and behavior towards Obama and very little to zero mention about McKinney you have to wonder if race is at the bottom of their hatred. This to is worth a serious look into since the PUMA believe they are of value and have higher values.

Regarding Governors, while it’s true that most governors do get executive experience, that is not true in Texas. Here in in Texas our Governor is a basically a figure head, they have limited to no power. The real chief of state in Texas is the LT. Governor. Therefore, George Bush basically had as much executive experience as Sarah Palin and look how that turned out.
You need to really do some serious research and credible reading on Obama if you are to continue your misguided beliefs. We have come to a point where lies, talking points and GOP BS just doesn’t fly any more. PUMA logic, which seems to be in line with GOP logic, will fail them as it has the republicans.

This is old party politics rhetoric, something that failed Clinton. Obama like Howard Dean and all the Dems in the 2006 election used the 50 state plan which dismisses the idea of big states only and encompasses everyone. Get it! Every one matters not just Florida, California, Texas, NY, and Pennsylvania. The media learned this lesson very well with every primary prediction they made.
While the women vote during the primary was the driving force and Obama did get 2/3 that is not true in recent polls. BTY: women are not the only people voting in this election. I believe that the constant march and focus of women in the voting both this election cycle diminished, African American, men, Latinos and every other American voter out there. Think about this for one minute, If African Americans or Latino used the same argument that PUMAs are using they would be accused of race bating and divisive.
Regarding Bill Richardson, if he is not able to insert his resume into the conversation he can;t answer a question.
You should probable consider focusing your energy and contempt toward Mark Penn who was really the cause of Hillary Clinton loss. It’s unbecoming to assign blame and point fingers when the evidence is in front of you.

my thought is- it should be up to democrats themselves to unify their party. and- apprently, there is the clintonista contingent- aka pumas that aren’t interested in doing that. that leads me to believe that they are actually republican crossovers. it won’t be obama who loses the election, it will be the rank and file democrats who hand the election to the republican neocons. the bottom line is- if the pumas were interested in a liberal woman candidate- they would throw their votes behind mckinney. the bottom line is- a vote for mccain is a vote for more years of bushco. the bottom line is palin is as corrupt as a dc insider and isn’t experienced at all. she is anti contraceptives, anti abortion, anti universal healthcare, anti equal rights for lgbt. i don’t believe that the pumas are voting for mccain because of his experience. i believe that they are voting because they are election spoilers. they are no more democrats than i am.

Thanks for the link. I read the email post and I do not condone any manner of violence or threats towards anyone. However, I am saddened that democtarts are acting in this manner. I would love everyone to get behind Obama so we can make the changes that are needed. I would feel this way no matter who the democratic nominee was.

I gotta laugh, though I really shouldn’t. This post gets to the real problem of our electoral process. Real issues get lost in the shuffle. Voters constantly get lost in minor side issues like gender and what a dog the opposing candidate is. It’s all become like a middle school lunch room fight over who gets to sit at the “cool” table.

Dear PUMA people:
Ask yourself: Do you support a candidate or a philosophy? Do you support your party or your fundamental values? And will your vote reflect your values or your emotions?
Will you vote for a candidate that also believes in your values for a candidate who has decades of experience in making sure that your values are not reflected…?
Before this election, I thought the American people voted in accordance to their philosophy, virtues, values, and beliefs. Now I have come to understand that people will not only sacrifice their values, but the quality of life of themselves and their fellow Americans to make a “point”.
If you are a Democrat but believe in the values and the mission that the GOP reflects at this moment, then by all means, vote McCain. if you are Republican, but believe in the values and the mission that the Democratic Party reflects at this moment, then by all means, vote Obama.
But do NOT discard your values because the DNC made a mistake…YES they made a big one. Do not forsake the beliefs that you hold because some idiots in Florida and Michigan wanted their state to be in the limelight. It is THEIR fault, not ours. Don’t make America pay for their mistakes.

First of all Obama is WHITE with a great tan. He’s not black, didn’t grow in the black experience, doesn’t have the black ethos. In other words, he’s not Jesse Jackson. Secondly, he has not lied about his earmarks. H said he gave out earmarks like all senators. When Biden and Hillary and Obama were competing against each other, many of the candidates said things about Obama. However, Obama was much more more judicious in his comments because he understands that there’s alwas tomorrow. Obama is an excellent as demonstrated by the excellent campaign he has run for almost the past two years. Many others including John McCain have tred to follow suit.
Obama has done a great job in the debates. Hes a thoughtful man that doesn’t try to manipulate the public with one liners. Obama understands that the issues we face are complex and diffult to overcome. He understands that prcess is going to be challenging and require leadership willing to tell the American people the truth.
Obama is going to win the election. He’s just going through his paces right now. There is no way that the powers that be are going to install a reactionary president with LIPSTICK into the White House.
I have checked the facts. For example, I know Bernardine Dorhn. We’re from the same era – civil rights era. She’s an awesome person committed to protecting the rights of women and children. Many of you have accused ama f beng a Muslim and at the same tme of sitting in a Christian church for 20 years. You all just can’t seem to keep it straight.
There will be no riots in the streets here. It will all come from abroad. The Republicans will unleash World War III and American cities will burn. You should read Bob Woodward’s book the War Within. You should find out what the real Iraqi surge was all about. It had nothing to do with increasing the number of troops in Iraq. Bush/Cheney have been doing some dirty dealing in the Middle East and if McCain were to become president we could expect to be attacked and attacked on AMERICAN SOIL at a scale much larger than 9/11.
My problem with PUMAs is that they’ve lumped all women together. Women of color are not votng for McCain. Not going to happen. That’s what I’d you all to stop. I’d like you to be honest and say out loud that you’re white.
And by the way, my husband is white and he’s voting for Obama. Why? Because he said McCain is crazy. cCain as an undisclosed psychiatric history. Even Republicans are afraid of the possibility of a McCain presidency.

For me I am sick and tired of “women” continually injected into this election. I am voting for a President. When someone runs for executive office, male or female, they need to take all the knocks and punches of everyone else. I think the whole “women” issues has distracted and continues to dirstac us from getting a president who will actually do something.
If someone is going to vote for McCain because Palin is on the ticket then you have missed the whole point and suffering that is going on in the country. But I guess that’s not a concern to the self centered PUMAs
Here’s another thought for you; It has crossed my mind that PUMAs ntheir behavior and hate are so like “switboaters” I would not be surprise me that many are Karl Rove operatives.
Regarding Obama; to me he is a person running for office. I think it would be in the best of everyone if democrats start acting the way they talk. Stop looking at what people are and instead start looking at who they are.

Yes. I’m a proud PUMA voter also supporting John McCain and Sarah Palin. Hillary can not be substituted for Barack, and I am stunned at how Obama’s supporters are willing to overlook his racist, anti-semetic and sexist views just because they want to win an election. If people are upset with Palin’s experience, which is strong in my opinion, Obama has even less and he has radical terrorist connections which do make a difference. He’s called women sweeties, brushed us off, claimed Hillary wanted him shot when he made her RFK comment, and now has called her a pig (yes he did). He’s acting like an abusive husband who is begging for us to come back, and if people are afraid Roe v. Wade will be overturned, that’s a Democratic Party scare tactic because it will be sent back to the states and many have pro-abortion laws anyway. And as a small business person, I am already paying heavily in taxes. We pay double taxes for employees and employers, but we create most of the jobs. I only make 42 cents for every dollar I earn. Taxes are the real issue plus energy independence, and keeping America safe, and John McCain and Sarah Palin are better on all three. And before you call me a sexist, my family knew Dr. King, helped to organize the March on Washington and participated in the march at Selma as well. He was hit by rocks a couple of times fighting for civil rights, but we don’t believe Obama is what we marched for. You can fight racism with reverse racism, sexism and rewarding Louis Farakkhan at your church.

i am a woman- and as a woman, i fail to see how you could possibly vote for a mccain/palin ticket. i did not support hillary clinton in the primaries- i am a dennis kucinich supporter- but i can say with sincerity that clinton’s fight for women’s and children’s issues is polar opposite of mccain/palin. sarah palin’s record while in office- whether it be mayor or governor- has been all about sarah palin. she has misused her office to advance her religion, her personal vendettas, and apparently, travel about on the taxpayer’s dime- but damn! the woman can shoot.

Some of the bloggers above mentioned the idea that it may very well be Bristol and not Sarah Palin who gave birth to Trig. There is A LOT of evidence that this is so. I suggest you go to this site: http://www.palindeception.com to see this evidence. Example: Bristol left school for 5 months prior to the birth of that baby. Trig’s birth announcement was on the hospital’s web site, then disappeared. How do we know for sure that Bristol is pregnant, let alone 5 months pregnant? How could Sarah claim to be 7 months pregnant, when her staff, who saw her daily, never suspected? Etc. A lot of the info is medical, like, she could be pregnant again soon after giving birth, etc.

Everytime I see responses written like most of the ones to this article, which appear to be written by white women, I think about the extraordinarily clueless and cruel white woman depicted in the COLOR PURPLE who was highly offended when Oprah’s character didn’t want her very young children working in a white woman’s kitchen. I think there’s a reason white folks get more cancer and age ten times faster than people of color. They seem to spew hate wherever they go. In their world, it’s not possible to respect and like John McCain and not vote for him. Sarah Palin is another story. She seems to have risen from the ashes of white hate. I really don’t understand what is wrong with white folks. Is it genetic? Is this why white folks tend to die disproportionately from skin cancer – you know from trying to TAN their skin? By the year 2040, white folks will be a minority in the United States. And I have to say I am so glad because they can’t seem to tolerate differences. I’m not mad at white folks and I definitely don’t hate them but DAMN, they seem to be genetically engineered to hate. Our planet is dying. We need to move past all the hate and start working together to find solutions not only to save ourselves but each other.
