(CBS/AP) Egypt’s state-owned press opened fire Saturday on U.S. President George W. Bush as he arrived for talks with regional leaders at the conclusion of a five-day Mideast tour.

The newspapers, whose management are all appointed by the government, criticized Mr. Bush’s speech Thursday in front of the Israeli Knesset for being overly supportive of the Israelis and not mentioning the Palestinians’ plight.

“The Torah-inspired speech of Bush raised question marks over the credibility of the U.S. role in the Middle East,” wrote Mursi Atallah, the publisher of Al-Ahram, the flagship daily of the state-owned press. “Bush aims to do nothing but appeasing Israel.”

A front page editorial in Al-Gomhouria, another Egyptian state-owned daily, described Mr. Bush as “a failed president who delivers nothing but a lousy speech.”

Akhbar Al-Youm also on Saturday published a picture of Mr. Bush hugging Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and captioned it “lovers.”

The paper also ran a front page cartoon showing an Egyptian peasant consoling President Hosni Mubarak for having to meet with “this burdensome guy who will be leaving soon,” in reference to Mr. Bush.

Mr. Bush is seen in the Arab world as somebody who tilts heavily toward Israel. And that was pretty apparent yesterday when he was in Saudi Arabia asking, among other things, for the Saudis to pump more oil in the hopes that that might help bring down gas prices in the U.S.

The Saudis gave him a polite but firm “No.”

Bush has said over and over:

• Setting an artificial timetable would send the wrong message to the Iraqis
• Inappropriate Dress and Conduct May Send the Wrong Message
• “… he idea of embracing a leader who has done this without any attempt on his part to, you know, release prisoners and free their society, would be counterproductive and send the wrong signal.”
• Bush asked rhetorically. “What’s lost is it’ll send the wrong message. It’ll send a discouraging message to those who wonder whether America will continue to work for the freedom of prisoners.”
• “Cutting and running” in Iraq, as Bush said some critics have suggested the United States do, would send the wrong message to the Iraqis, the terrorists, the Middle East and the world, he said.
• Pardon for Libby would send the wrong message
• ” … And it would send the wrong message to the enemy, who would know that all they have to do is to wait us out.”
• “Setting an artificial timetable would send the wrong message to the Iraqis”
• It’ll send a discouraging message to those who wonder whether America will continue to work for the freedom of prisoners.
• Republicans warn the vote will embolden terrorists and insurgents, and send the wrong message to the troops on the ground, while Democrats argue that the troop surge will risk more American lives.
• Mr. Bush says it would send the wrong signal to people around the world if the president of the United States meets with tyrants.

Sorry, I looked everywhere, still cannot locate that ‘Editorial Cartoon’ of Bush & Olmert. Bush knows nothing about the Torah. The Torah, like the Quran, is a book of laws. Bush has demonstrated for eight years, “he don’t need no stinkin’ laws”. All Bush knows is he wants to send a “Message”. Since, he cannot distinguish between right and wrong, how can he send a “Message” unless someone else writes it for him? What a sad legacy.
