Strategic Timing - China Reveals Iran Nuclear Antics To IAEA
VIENNA, Austria (AP) — China gave the International Atomic Energy Agency intelligence about Iran’s nuclear program despite Beijing’s opposition to harsh U.N. Security Council sanctions on Tehran, according to diplomats familiar with the matter.
A Chinese decision to provide information for a probe into Iran’s alleged nuclear weapons program could be a sign of growing international unease about the Islamic republic’s denials that it never tried to make nuclear weapons.
The diplomats who revealed the Chinese cooperation said the U.N. nuclear watchdog had started getting more information from member nations after a February presentation by the agency to its 35 board members summarizing the intelligence on Iran’s alleged clandestine nuclear arms program.
Suspected weapons-related work outlined in the February presentation and IAEA reports preceding it include:
_ Uranium conversion linked to high explosives testing and designs of a missile re-entry vehicle, all apparently interconnected through involvement of officials and institutions.
_ Procurement of so-called “dual use” equipment and experiments that also could be used in both civilian and military nuclear programs.
_ Iran’s possession of a 15-page document outlining how to form uranium metal into the shape of a warhead.
The details are trickling out just now, but, China presented this in February! Why is this revelation hitting the news right now? China needs good press …
China has betrayed one its closest allies by providing the United Nations with intelligence on Iran’s efforts to acquire nuclear technology, diplomats have revealed.
Concern over Tehran’s secretive research programme has increased in recent weeks after officials at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN’s nuclear watchdog, discovered that Iran had obtained information on how to manufacture nuclear-armed weapons.
IAEA weapons inspectors report that Iran has not provided full co-operation.
Meanwhile, Israel has accused Iran of setting up listening stations in Syria to eavesdrop on its military communications network.
The bad news is, China has just given King George a free ticket to start action against Iran. This may be the major production I have been predicting all along … we will see.
Just five months after President Bush warned that Iran’s alleged pursuit of nuclear weapons could lead to “World War III,” the White House had to settle for a watered-down UN resolution that makes most trade and financial sanctions voluntary. The Security Council voted 14-0 to sanction Iran for refusing to stop its uranium enrichment program, falling one short of the unanimous vote the White House sought to signal the international community’s resolve.
If I hear the word RESOLVE again, I will be sick. King George and his itchy trigger finger are ready to make his day and ruin ours. Ours, meaning the rest of the world. George Bush has redefined the word resolve. In Bush-speak, RESOLVE means “Like it or not, I’m gonna do it anyway”. Thanks China, you have added the final straw to the Bush war wagon and he’s ready to roll.

Truly Frijoles, there is a disconnect here. And truly too, “progressive” think requires a general denial of reality. Reality would be, simply, that our President misjudged the degree of resolve Americans have for a ‘war on terrorism’, and that war’s, or any war’s certain uncertainties. President Bush can be faulted only there.
