Clinton Breaks Pledge And Heads To Florida

Hillary Clinton along with all the other Democratic candidates pledged not to campaign in Florida, however Hillary will appear in Florida on Tuesday. How can anyone trust or believe what Clinton says. It’s obvious that Hillary doesn’t play or obey the same rules everyone else does.

The Nation:

  • Hillary Clinton has decided to rewrite the rules of the race for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination.
  • Like other candidates, she pledged not to campaign in Florida after the state jumped ahead on the schedule of caucuses and primaries set by the Democratic National Committee. She had to make that pledge if she hoped to compete in the first-in-the-nation Iowa caucuses and the first-in-the-nation New Hampshire primary, as Iowa and New Hampshire zealously guard their starting status on the political calendar.
  • But Iowa and New Hampshire are history and, after a landslide loss in South Carolina on Saturday, Clinton needs a win.
  • So she has begun appearing in Florida in anticipation of Tuesday’s Democratic primary there.
  • Clinton’s move insults not just the voters in Iowa and New Hampshire who trusted her pledge but also the voters of all the states that respected the DNC’s outline for the nominating process. Effectively, she is saying to Democrats in states that will participate in February 5th’s “Super Tuesday” primaries and caucuses and in the two dozen states that have scheduled later votes: You may follow the rules if you please, but I write the rules as I please.
  • “Hundreds of thousands of people have already voted in Florida and I want them to know I will be there to be part of what they have tried to do to make sure their voices are heard,” said Clinton before jetting to Sarasota and Miami for events on Sunday.
  • The Clinton campaign claims that the senator from New York is abiding by the no-campaigning pledge because Sunday’s two Florida events were technically closed to the public. But the stops were treated as major news events in a state where many Democrats have expressed anger over the absence of the party’s presidential candidates during a period when Florida is overrun by Republican contenders.

I’ve always thought the Democrats were cutting their throats by bypassing Florida and Michigan, which they will pay for dearly this fall.

However Hillary made an agreement, and her backtracking shows just how dishonest she really is.

    Larry:
I fully agree. The democrats should have only taken half the delegates like the RNC did.

I hope Hillary’s recent behavior is an eye opener for voters.

I live in FL. And I’m happy she has come here. I have more respect for her now not less (and she isn’t even the candidates that I am supporting). I just wish she had come here sooner.

Obama has had ads running here (also against the agreement) for some time now. I have not seen any Hillary ads. So, this argument seems a bit hypocritical to me. The ads are reaching many more people than Hillary is.

Following the rules is great, and when someone breaks the rules you should question their integrity….However, if it’s a stupid rule that disenfranchises hundreds of thousands of voters…Then I think that rule should be broken.

As far as I am concerned, Hillary Clinton is willing to stand-up to the DNC and fight for the voters of Florida - that shows strength to me, and I welcome it. I don’t want a president that will not stand up for the rights of :all” the people of this country.

I heard Obama several times over the last few days, saying Florida is just a “beauty pageant” - because it has no value in electoral votes. That makes me SO mad! We are voters and we matter! And that is what he should be saying. If he is going to cower to the DNC that is fine, but don’t disrespect the voters here.

FYI: The general election is just around the corner, and more than likely FL will be one of the most important states to win. How “honest” is it to ignore and disrespect us now, and then come back and panders to us later?

Well, that’s how I feel about it anyway. I have to go now and cast my vote the doesn’t matter.

Hillary is the DNC, its the machine, she is a power player. Obama is only trying to show a little respect and reality orientation, there are rules. Florida Michigan did a wacky thing with the DNC. All i get out of Hillary is that she is such a power player , that she firmly believes she can pull all the strings. AND yes i do agree, all voters need to have their votes counted. Its a darn shame that Florida and Michigan had these spasisms prior to such an historical election. But lets not fault OBAMA for having integrity, respect, and be a democratic party team player. Clinton thinks she is a party unto herself. Her promise are EMPTY - pandering is the name of the game. She in MY opinion is a NEO LIB, as slick as her husband. And the NOTION OF A DYNASTY in AMERICA makes me shudder. But Obama HAS DONE NOTHING WRONG, he is just less manipulative the a Clinton. Personally i find that refreshng..

What Florida did, made me wonder if the Dem Party Chairs were freakin republican moles. Shades of 2000. I want all the votes counted and of course what all the delegates seated and voting at the National Convention. Its pitiful what has gone down. Catherine i deeply hope YOUR vote does MATTER, regardless of who you vote for.
