I went to Ronnie Earle as a person in need
Seven years ago two people spoke. What appears to be an intervention, an explanation or a scenario is now a public scrutiny for someone running for office. Politics through scandal is disgusting. Whether impropriety or discussion, influence peddling or loyalty, the Austin American Statesman has launched a controversy that will, no doubt, become a greater issue than it should be.
Any seasoned politician knows if they blow their nose, there will be a report and a spin. History becomes vague and more pliable for those who want to manipulate it. Incidents are softened or hardened at the whim of self serving recollection.
Show me a politician who has successfully resisted using their influence to help or hurt someone significant to them. This goes with the territory. Sensationalism is the tool of political ambition … this is a sad game.
The players are Glen Maxey, Ronnie Earle and Brian Eager. The time is June, 2000, Austin, Texas. The sensation is homophobia.
In 2000, Austin state Rep. Glen Maxey ![]()
approached District Attorney Ronnie Earle ![]()
about a case his office was prosecuting. Earle says Maxey asked for a punishment less severe than his office was seeking
who had already been arrested several times and would later serve time in jail.
This story would get less play if this event involved a politician whose lover, of the opposite sex, was convicted and sentenced. It would appear more noble for a request of leniency.
Please enlighten me what, exactly this incident, over seven years ago, has to do with collecting taxes for the city of Austin, Texas today? Why is this acceptable? From local petty mud slinging, to national mud slinging, politicians that tap the fears of their less progressive voters will never get my vote. That goes for Hillery, too.

Okay, I’ll enlighten you. Maxey is running for tex collector but owes taxes himself. Conflict of interest. Maxey is running to be in charge of the voter lists but is a political consultant who makes his living with voter lists. Conflict of interest.

To the anonymous poster:
I don’t owe any taxes other than what I’ll pay along with the rest of America on April 15th for last year.
You can buy the entire voter list for $78.00. Hardly worth running for office just to save some chump change.
If you are going to make stuff up, at least make it creditable.

Glen Maxey:
Thanks for stopping by and correcting the anonymous person.
It always bothers me when people don’t put there names in, anonymous reminds me of Klan sheets over the head.
They probably work for the statesman.
