Pelosi Caves On Stimulus Package
In a tentative deal on the economic stimulus package Pelsoi agreed to drop increases in food stamp and unemployment benefits. God forbid anyone besides the wealthy should eat or be able to have a few pennies to pay their bills.
Pelosi’s reason for the cave was an exchange for gaining rebates of at least $300 for almost everyone earning a paycheck, including low-income earners who make too little to pay income taxes. Wait a minute I thought Bush was using $800.00 for everyone. So Pelosi threw out food stamp and the extension of unemployment benefits in return for a reduced check. Way to go
While Bush has been touting an $800.00 check to everyone, today’s new amount is $300.00 for almost everyone earning a paycheck. What does “for almost everyone” mean? I understand “people that get paychecks” but what is the “almost” caveat. I smell a major kick to the poor and middle class coming. The tentative deal also includes $300 per child capped at $1200.00. I’m sure Bush will find a way to get around paying families the full amount.
- The emerging package was already drawing fire from liberal activists and labor unions upset that proposals to extend unemployment insurance and boost food stamps had been dropped. They said those ideas could pump money into the economy more quickly than tax rebate checks that won’t be delivered until June.
- Conservative Republicans were likely to be restless over tax rebates going to those without income tax liability.
The GOP doesn’t want to give “tax rebates going to those without income tax liability,” well there’s the “almost” caveat. This should reduce the numbers of poor and middle class families getting a check.
Oh and don’t forget those business tax cuts. I’m sure major companies with off shore accounts will get the cuts while mom and pop businesses will get screwed. So here’s the business deal
- tax breaks for businesses that could cost as $70 billion, far more than had been expected, said a senior House aide and a Democratic lobbyist said.
- The business tax portion would give businesses incentives to invest in plants and equipment, give small businesses more generous expensing rules and allow businesses suffering losses now to reclaim taxes previously paid.
Does anyone in their right mind actually believe that Exxon/Mobile, Shell and all the other giants will invest in plants? These greedy corporations have had record breaking quarters since Cheney’s scam energy bill went into effect. They have not restructures or built plants with all the cash they have gouging from us. Give me a freaking break. Bush and the GOP have once again managed to give corporations more help and not families.
With elections around the corner, Congress especially Pelosi, should be very concerned about the lack of attention towards the middle class and the poor. Voter turnout will be high so I hope Congress is sending their resumes out. Congratulations Pelosi on your consistent caving into Bush.
Nancy Pelosi, the first woman to break the glass ceiling in Congress, has now confirmed the negative stereotypes of “woman can’t do the job, woman are not up to the task, and woman are not tough enough.” Thank you Nancy Pelosi for your help in setting the woman’s moving in reverse. Something you can be proud of when you leave Congress.
