Help The Judiciary Committee Impeach Dick Cheney

Signature Update: After I posted this I signed the petition and there are over 89,000 signature.
30,000 People Join Congressman Wexler’s Call for Hearings in Just 24 Hours
Blockbuster First Day for WexlerWantsHearings.com
WexlerWantsHearings.com and asked Americans to join his efforts to convince Congress to hold impeachment hearings. As of
“The amazing response generated by my call for impeachment hearings simply confirms the passion and energy that exists throughout the nation to hold this Administration accountable” said Wexler. “Originally my long term goal was 50,000 people to join the movement. Now it is clear we will accomplish that in only the first couple days. Major momentum now exists on behalf of our movement and it is now clear that average Americans desperately want Congress and the House Judiciary Committee to take action.”
Wexler, a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee, launched WexlerWantsHearings.com to mobilize grass roots and netroots support from across the nation in order to increase pressure on Congress to hold impeachment hearings. In a new video, featured on the site , Wexler issues a strongly worded statement in favor of hearings. The video has already been viewed more than 11,000 times during its first day of release.
“Our Constitution mandates that the House of Representatives hold Presidents and Vice-Presidents accountable when they commit High Crimes… Accountability and the rule of law are not partisan; they are American. They supersede politics and strategy. We must hold all of our leaders accountable. No exceptions,” Wexler states on the video.
Wexler has also released an op-ed advocating for Cheney impeachment hearings that was written with his two House Judiciary Committee colleagues Rep.Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) and Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI). Following the refusal of major national newspapers to publish editorial, including the New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times, and Miami Herald, Wexler released the editorial online. Based on the major media blackout, the netroots alone are responsible for the tremendous online outpouring of support on behalf of Cheney impeachment hearings.
A copy of the online op-ed by Wexler, Gutierrez, and Baldwin, entitled “A Case for Hearings”, is available at WexlerWantsHearings.com and is also attached below. In the editorial, the three Members of the Judiciary Committee declare that serious charges have been made against Cheney “relat[ing] to his deceptive actions leading up to the Iraq war, the revelation of the identity of a covert agent for political retaliation, and the illegal wiretapping of American citizens.” The Members of Congress further state that “the worst legacy of the
Excerpts from the Original Op-ed:
By Representatives and Members of the Judiciary Committee:
Robert Wexler (D-FL), Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI)
On November 7, the House of Representatives voted to send a resolution of impeachment of Vice President Cheney to the Judiciary Committee. As Members of the House Judiciary Committee, we strongly believe these important hearings should begin.
The issues at hand are too serious to ignore, including credible allegations of abuse of power that if proven may well constitute high crimes and misdemeanors under our constitution. The charges against Vice President Cheney relate to his deceptive actions leading up to the Iraq war, the revelation of the identity of a covert agent for political retaliation, and the illegal wiretapping of American citizens.
Now that former White House press secretary Scott McClellan has indicated that the Vice President and his staff purposefully gave him false information about the outing of Valerie Plame Wilson as a covert agent to report to the American people, it is even more important for Congress to investigate what may have been an intentional obstruction of justice. Congress should call Mr. McClellan to testify about what he described as being asked to “unknowingly [pass] along false information.” In addition, recent revelations have shown that the Administration including Vice President Cheney may have again manipulated and exaggerated evidence about weapons of mass destruction — this time about Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
The charges against Vice President Cheney are not personal. They go to the core of the actions of this Administration, and deserve consideration in a way the Clinton scandal never did. The American people understand this, and a majority support hearings according to a November 13 poll by the American Research Group. In fact, 70% of voters say that Vice President Cheney has abused his powers and 43% say that he should be removed from office right now. The American people understand the magnitude of what has been done and what is at stake if we fail to act. It is time for Congress to catch up.

On December 10th, 2007, I blogged about Rep. Robert Wexler and his commitment to impeach the criminal Dick Cheney.
Here: http://fromtheleft.wordpress.com/page/2/
I linked to a piece appearing in the Palm Beach Post.

I fully support Wexler’s commitment and I think he can easily meet the standard of establishing “High crimes and Misdemeanors” as spelled out in the Constitution.
However, unless there’s something I don’t know and I certainly don’t know everything, Wexler has a huge obstacle and her name is Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
The Articles of Impeachment are ordered by the U.S. Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Pelosi, who is guilty of collaborating with George Bush on torture (guilt by omission in 2002) and possible war profiteering, will do everything in her power to stop Wexler, including ordering the Capitol Police to arrest him and take him to jail.

Christopher:
Pelosi crossed my mind also however, I think since the bill made it to committee and they are not listening to her order not to impeach they will move forward.
Since Wexler believes that the resolution fits the constitution violations and the committee can prove it Pelosi will have to go sit her sorry behind in the corner.
I have faith in Wexler that he has checked every part of the Constitution and his legal standing before he took this leap.

Fingers and eyes and arms and legs crossed.
Few things would make me happier than seeing Cheney impeached.
The stress could very well be the thing that gives him his fifth and final heart attack.
The lying, greasy, warmongering bastard.

Christopher:
I’m with you, everything crossed and all my hope in Wexler’s success.
Cheney will just use is government paid insurance for another heart issue. I think the tax payers should stop paying Cheney insurance premiums.

Thanks to you and Dusty for passing this along via her blog. I signed tonight. The least we ALL can do is stand alongside the few members of Congress such as Representatives Wexler, Guitierrez and Baldwin, and Sentaor Dodd who are willing to stand and fight for their principles. Sadly we have been let down by many of the pols who are more concerned about the big money interests want than what they citizens they represent want.

Big Fella:
Your welcome. I agree we should stand by the very few in Congress who understand than oath and are standing up. Hopefully something will come of Wexler’s call for help.
Pelosi needs to be next on the least to be removed from office.
