Biden: Impeachment if Bush bombs Iran

In a recent visit to New Hampshire, Joe Biden told the audience that if Bush bombs Iran he will move to impeach Bush. This could possibly happen since Bush and Cheney will probable ignore the impeachment threat from Biden. After all they have ignored everything that Congress tells them and the public wants. They are both above the law and the Constitution is just a piece pf paper.

PORTSMOUTH — Presidential hopeful Delaware Sen. Joe Biden stated unequivocally that he will move to impeach President Bush if he bombs Iran without first gaining congressional approval.

  • Biden spoke in front of a crowd of approximately 100 at a candidate forum held Thursday at Seacoast Media Group. The forum focused on the Iraq war and foreign policy. When an audience member expressed fear of a war with Iran, Biden said he does not typically engage in threats, but had no qualms about issuing a direct warning to the Oval Office.
  • “The president has no authority to unilaterally attack Iran, and if he does, as Foreign Relations Committee chairman, I will move to impeach,” said Biden, whose words were followed by a raucous applause from the local audience.
  • Biden said he is in the process of meeting with constitutional law experts to prepare a legal memorandum saying as much and intends to send it to the president.
  • When local resident Joel Carp asked Biden why not impeach now, given what has already been done, Biden said it was a valid point, but might not be constitutionally valid and potentially counterproductive. A case for impeachment must have clear evidence, Biden said, and blame should be directed at the right parties.
  • “If you’re going to impeach George Bush, you better impeach (Vice President Dick) Cheney first,” said Biden, again drawing applause.
  • Biden said the best deterrent to prevent pre-emptive military action in Iran is to make it clear, even if it is at the end of his final term, action will be taken against Bush to ensure “his legacy will be marred for all time.”

The trouble with joe is that apparently he is blind to the already numerous reasons why Impeachment should have begun a long time ago. Joe is a day late and a dollar short.

Joe is late but I think he will be held to this one since war with IRan will happen before the next election.

Too damn little too damn late. Plus, the attack on Iran will come too close to the election to do anything about it. Plus, we do not have a congress who exercises its power or fulfills their oaths of office.

This is nothing more than campaign talk. Pandering at its worst.

I though it was all about pandering. Silly me.

I thought the house has the power to impeach. Can someone please clarify? Thanks

It is good to bring up the monkey’s impeachment as an issue. I wish we saw more of it, pandering or not.

You are correct, the/House is the only one with the power to impeach. However, since Biden is chair of the Foreign Relations Committee and he is having a Constitutional review written, his warnings and suggestion carries much weight.

Biden would take his findings to a House member to have them present it to the floor.

Impeachment should be talked about all the time even if Pelosi won’t put it on the table.

The idea that a senior Senator would publicaly state this, might indicate the temperature of the Senate. Granted Biden does often talk too much but he has been against the impeachment discussion prior to this statement. Even if it is pandering it does put him on the spot.

Speaker Botox must’ve fallen on the floor when Sen. Biden said he would move to impeach Bush/Cheney if they bombed Iran.

After all, Speaker Botox’s wholly unconstitutional statements like, “Impeachment is off the table,” and “Bush isn’t worth impeaching,” suggests she is acting in ways not in accord with this nation’s governing document. She is a contemptable witch and clearly Bush’s enabler. That goes for Harry “limp noodle” Reid too.

As much as I support Biden’s remarks, structurally, I am left wondering how he would carry out his threat? The impeachment articles begins in the U.S. House of Representatives and not the U.S. Senate. I have never heard of a senator impeaching a president.

I suppose Biden could use his considerable power and network to support a House member ordering the articles. I would love to see such a showdown and watch Pelosi and Reid fall apart in the process.

Pelosi must have been screaming. You’ve got to love her torture.

The only way Biden could do it is by getting someone in the House to bring it to the floor. I’m sure Kucinich would volunteer,

    BIDEN STEALS Dennis KUCINICH!

I wasn’t sure if I should be amused or sickened when I read this blog, brought forward via a link from Reuters. It seems we can add being an unoriginal thief to Biden’s list, as he steals directly from both word and deed of Dennis Kucinch.. Or maybe Biden didn’t read that memo either?

Representative Dennis Kucinich (Dem., OH) penned the Articles of Impeachment months ago. He filed them a couple/few weeks ago, and they were passed in a surprising victory vote. Those charges are now with the Judiciary Committee. Biden would be a welcome but tardy guest to Kucinich’s fete.

It was also Dennis Kucinich who pointed out (thinking man that he is) that Cheney has to be impeached first, to keep Cheney from becoming President, declaring Emergency, etc.

Virtually every point made in this was stated loud and clear by Kucinich long before this. So Biden is now trying to steal Kucinich’s ideas, action AND thunder.

Fact is, Dennis Kucinich is one of only two men who voted against all of this, from the war, to continued funding, to the so-called Patriot Act. When asked why Kucinich didn’t vote for the Patriot Act, he replied succintly “Because I read it.” (Apparently far too many just went by the book’s cover.) When asked by Steven Colbert (?) if he had shrunk down his pocketbook Constitution himself, Kucinich quickly replied, “No, George Bush already did that.”

Far more than a decidedly quick mind and wit, Dennis Kucinich is a man of principle and conscience. His voting record has been consistent with his statements for decades. Not one to be bought, Dennis Kucinich is the sort of leader this country needs. While over 400 elected representatives were looking away from the elephant in the living room (that Cheney & Bush had blatantly lied about WMD and Cheney had made unauthorized threat of war against Iran) only one of them had the guts and wisdom to step up , endure the ridicule, and file the Articles of Impeachment. That one man is Dennis Kucinich. Joe Biden was a very late guest to Kucinich’s actions.

“Imagine having a President in office who got it right the first time.” Wouldn’t that be awesome? We owe it to ourselves to check out Dennis Kucinich. The website is above. I urge you to find out more about this amazing leader. The more you do, the more certainl you’ll be that Dennis Kucinich is the only person you can vote FOR in 2008.

Vote for Dennis Kucinich in the Democratic primaries and for President of the United States in 2008!

    JT:
Dennis is on the right track and impeachment should have been done long ago. The fact that Pelosi tabled impeachment and Kucinich’s impeachment of Cheney has not even been addressed in committee is just another example of the failures of Pelosi.

I hope that Biden’s words, whether his own or stolen from Dennis, get attention to move the impeachment of Cheney through committee. I do think that Biden should have given Kucinich praise when he said those words. But then that’s not Joe, he does have a tendency to run his mouth.

    Thank you for you comments.

    JT:

Should have given him praise? Biden’s running for President, too. Biden SHOULD be giving Kucinich his vote!

We all should. Really. Dennis Kucinich is a demonstrated leader, a frontrunner in doing the right thing the first time. We really need that – especially now. Kucinich is the ONLY candidate that I could vote FOR (instead of against a lesser evil) in the past 50 years.

I hope you’ll help get the word out on the man who actually said these things and actually took action to impeach Cheney instead of just paying it lip service.

Kucinich is GOOD for this nation… has been all along.

I am not a Biden support, so I am with you on the frustration of Biden acting like he had an original thought.

What I am pleased about is that the impeachment word has been spoken by someone other than Dennis.

BYW: This blog has written several post on Dennis and the MSM constantly overlooking him. Kucinich is a viable candidate and should not be overlooked. We are not anti Dennis at this blog.
