The barely reported highlight of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Tehran for the Caspian Sea summit last week was a key face-to-face meeting with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

A high-level diplomatic source in Tehran tells Asia Times Online that essentially Putin and the Supreme Leader have agreed on a plan to nullify the George W Bush administration’s relentless drive towards launching a preemptive attack, perhaps a tactical nuclearstrike, against Iran. An American attack on Iran will be viewed by Moscow as an attack on Russia.

US Vice President Dick Cheney - who even Senator Hillary Clinton now refers to as Darth Vader - must be foaming at the mouth; but the fact is that after the Caspian summit, Iran and Russia are officially entangled in a strategic partnership. World War III, for them, is definitely not on the cards.

This is a development that has finally materialized. Some of us have been murmuring about this possibility, and now it is actually published. Bush/Cheney probably won’t see this as significant, but BossKitty gives this serious credence. In fact, Bush/Cheney respond to these developments as “the more the merrier”. This reinforces their push for a United Military Dictatorship of America. Mo’ money for the military-industrial complex. More research and development for WMD and exotic weaponry. The World, according to the Bush/Cheney regime, must be democratized according to their own interpretation and advantage. A World War will be the inevitable outcome of a strike against Iran. At least three factions would emerge; The West, The East and those who don’t like either side. Disaster! The world has more sophisticated weapons to choose from than ever in history. Toes are being stepped on right now, enemies are being created every day who want revenge. The enemy of my enemy is my friend will prevail around the world - if this A-Bomb-A-Nation starts this war on principle, the globe will not recover in our lifetime. Money and oil will be meaningless. Our country has become an arrogant world dictatorship. The world is angry and there is everything to loose.

This was the first visit to Tehran by a Kremlin chief since World War II. There is much more than symbolism here. Soviet leader Josef Stalin visited Tehran after the Allies defeated Hitler’s forces in World War II. Ahmadinejad is the new “Hitler” to the West. The German leader plunged the world into a catastrophic world war. But according to the new lexicon, you don’t need to have designs on your neighbors or visions of grandeur for you to become a Hitler.   All you have to do is to refuse to go along with the Western notions of what an ideal world order should be.
