Had Enough Of Swaggering Texas Profiteering Pirates

Oscar Wyatt: confessed last week that he kicked money back to Saddam Hussein in return for buying the former Iraqi dictator’s oil. Despicably, Mr. Wyatt did it through a United Nations program that was supposed to let Iraq sell its oil and invest the proceeds in food programs for its many hungry kids. Instead, Mr. Wyatt simply bypassed starving kids and pushed the cash to a murderous tyrant, a devilish deal that assured the Texas wheeler-dealer a share of Mr. Hussein’s oil.

The two went back way before the Persian Gulf War, but their relationship became front-page news in the run-up to that conflict. Mr. Wyatt journeyed to Baghdad in December 1990 with John Connally to negotiate the release of American hostages.

Why is there always a Texas connection to world events? There is a Texan or Texas connection to most world stories. Is the spirit of enterprise always in bed with dirty deals? Texans seem to always find a way to wiggle in to the money through wheeling, dealing, collusion and coercion. Legal means is an irritant to some of our more notorious Texans. The list is depressing in the current era. From our governor to our republican senators, Texas has a lot of cleanup ahead. In BossKitty’s lifetime, my first memory of corrupt Texans is Billy Sol Estes. George Bush I & George Bush II are my most recent poster boys for Texas Buccaneer status. These kind of Texans twist ethics as easily as they twist the truth to their advantage, because the end ALWAYS justifies the means.
