Burmese monks ‘to be sent away’
The American MSM seems to be far more occupied with Jenna Bush and a manhunt than the plight of the monks. Where are all the “religious” people in this country who get in our face about crap everyday but stand quite while religious men are slaughtered? Are they only vocal when Christian men and women of the cloth are being abused?
- Thousands of monks detained in Burma’s main city of Rangoon will be sent to prisons in the far north of the country, sources have told the BBC.
- About 4,000 monks have been rounded up in the past week as the military government has tried to stamp out pro-democracy protests.
- They are being held at a disused race course and a technical college. Sources from a government-sponsored militia said they would soon be moved away from Rangoon.
- The monks have been disrobed and shackled, the sources told BBC radio’s Burmese service. There are reports that the monks are refusing to eat.
- As well as preventing the demonstrations, the military junta has tried to block news of the unrest filtering out. Troops are stopping young men on the streets and in cars, searching for cameras that may be used to smuggle out images.
- Most internet links are still down and mobile phone networks disrupted.
- Official media has been warning Burmese people against co-operating with or using foreign news outlets.
- A TV message on Monday referred to the BBC, Voice of America and Radio Free Asia as “assassins on air”.
I guess Bush thinks it’s far more important to focus his attention on starting a war with Iran instead of stopping a real oppressive government.

Free Burma!
International Bloggers’ Day for Burma on the 4th of October
International bloggers are preparing an action to support the peaceful revolution in Burma. We want to set a sign for freedom and show our sympathy for these people who are fighting their cruel regime without weapons. These Bloggers are planning to refrain from posting to their blogs on October 4 and just put up one Banner then, underlined with the words „Free Burma!“.

my last post is on connecting the corporate dots connecting to Burma – i will post no more until the fourth. the 4000 monk round up is probably the tip of the ice berg. I will also look into the banner. My sadness feels like it has no end today for so many reasons..but we shall not give up, and will not collude. And a vote for anybody but Kucinich is collusion my friends.

Bush disapprove of cruel and repressive ? You’re Texans and should know his reaction : disapproval it ain’t ! Or does he only gloat when he gets to tease those sentenced to death ?

Opit:
I am confused with your statement: Bush disapproves if cruel an repressive?
I said:
Obviously Bush doesn’t see the Burmese (Myanmar) government as cruel and oppressive. If Bush did, he would have bomb the crap out of them by now.
I think Bush has no regard for life, dignity or humanity.

This post is very important NY for tomarrow the fourth bring it back to the top if you can. Click my name and the post is on top at my blog. If one has the time. It has a link within it. on GLH blog..his is dated for the 9/28.
AS someone with buddhist leanings..this post of yours breaks my heart wide open. Our world is teeming with brutality and courseness. We need leaders like Kucinich. WE need to make this happen. I refuse not to dream about it – him running independent. I gave more money just yesterday and talked to someone deep within his campaign to make suggestions for their website. His constituencies could be so vast..so many coalitions. WE need a country that is committed to strength through peace, social justice for ALL and sustainable living. People say oh its just not practical..oh but ..but but..
NO buts people..we can dollar by dollar make it happen. Make him stronger then ever..through our grassroots. He takes no corporate donations..NONE. Buy a sweatshirt, get a mug, make a donation..just do it please. Do it for the MONKS !!!
