Christian Conservatives Plan To Derail Giuliani
By Dodson putting up a third party candidate to peel off Rudy’s voters, Dobson will definitely help the Democrats win the White House. Hopefully, this move will put an end to religion hijacking politics.
Alarmed at the chance that the Republican party might pick Rudolph Giuliani as its presidential nominee despite his support for abortion rights, a coalition of influential Christian conservatives is threatening to back a third-party candidate in an attempt to stop him.
The group making the threat, which came together Saturday in Salt Lake City during a break-away gathering during a meeting of the secretive Council for National Policy, includes Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family, who is perhaps the most influential of the group, as well as Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council, the direct mail pioneer Richard Viguerie and dozens of other politically-oriented conservative Christians, participants said. Almost everyone present expressed support for a written resolution that “if the Republican Party nominates a pro-abortion candidate we will consider running a third party candidate.”
Sphere: Related ContentA revolt of Christian conservative leaders could be a significant setback to the Giuliani campaign because white evangelical Protestants make up a major portion of Republican primary voters. But the threat is risky for the credibility of the Christian conservative movement as well. Some of its usual grass-roots supporters could still choose to support even a pro-choice Republican like Mr. Giuliani, either because they dislike the Democratic nominee even more or because they are worried about war, terrorism and other issues.

Oh please, oh please, oh please let them go after Guliani. I’d love to see them further divide the Republican Party. And it’s just punishment for their unholy alliance to begin with.

I think Fred has already lost his appeal with the GOP. This new stunt by the religious right may be very entertaining.

This crowd is so full of hate and “do what I say” BS, that they deserve to be splinted beyond repair. The GOP has allowed the religious right to hijack and destroy them.

You said it Button , let them split , divide and ultimately disintegrate..its their well deserved Karma for their horrid exploitation of 911, LGBT, bigots of all stripes in their elite rich capitalist base and fundie base for VOTES. These tactics have destroyed all that could have been called good about the republican party. If i was a repug. i would be furious with the NEOs ..It would be hilarious if they put up a theocrat. Let em do it..and yeah pass the BBQ sauce and the popcorn too. All of their current candidates – hate to say it..but they are extremely batshit crazy opportunists..a new sicker , more hollow breed, then here to fore seen. If i were republican i would be heading out to register Independent about now. They are a laughing stock. I feel sorry for the decent ones.

The destruction of the republican party will be because they allowed religion to rule their process. They are hate filled bigots whose moral compass has tiled beyond recognition.
They do not even come close to the words they espouse about the teachings of Jesus. They teach hate and bigotry and disguised it as Gods teachings. They send their kids to Jesus camps to become robot warriors for their cause.
GOP candidates are perfect example of this with the constantly turning their backs on blacks, hispanics and gays and the poor. If the GOP candidates had a clue they would see that the country is not just their base of religious nuts.
