Bush Wants To Veto Government Funding – Government Shutdown
Update: Bush chides Congress for not passing funding bills
NTEU Urges President to Swiftly Sign Continuing Resolution
Now that the Senate has joined the House in approving a continuing resolution to fund federal agencies through Nov. 16, NTEU is urging the president to swiftly sign the legislation before Sunday’s end to the fiscal year. Such action will ensure the continuation of federal programs and services Americans depend on.
With the focus on fiscal 2008 funding, NTEU reminded the White House that its repeated veto threats of appropriations bills show a disregard of the need to adequately fund critical agencies and programs. This harms the federal government, its employees and ultimately the American people.
Throughout the appropriations process, NTEU will continue to stress the importance of approving legislation in a timely fashion that provides agencies with resources they need to fulfill their critical missions. www.NTEU.org .
Forcing agencies to operate without the necessary funding to deliver to the American people the services they want and need is short-sighted and seriously damaging.
With the House and Senate already having approved a Continuing Resolution to fund federal agencies through Nov. 16, Congress will now send to the White House legislation that will remove, for the time being, any threat of a government shutdown.
Oh great! Bushie Poo is looking to repeat Newt’s stunt of shutting the government down to prove a point. He holds the American people hostage to his wishes and ignores Congress again. If the appropriations don’t satisfy his personal agenda, then what the hell, shut it down. What exactly does this mean? Well, all federal workers include:
FDA, FBI, DEA, HHS, DHS, Federal Courts, ATF, FCC, BLM, INS, Customs, DOD, USDA, VA, Treasury, FAA, FDIC, FEMA, DOT, NASA … you get the picture? What a wonderful time we are entering. Even a one day shutdown is awful. Ever wonder where your tax dollars go? Check out over a thousand government agencies HERE . Most you depend on whether you know it or not, some you hate, some you need. Not to mention the hundreds of thousands who work for these agencies. They have mortgages, rent, kids in school, cars, insurance, families … and most of them work UNDER corporate wages (unless of course you work for a government contractor … add another couple of million workers).
