HR976, SCHIP Faces Bush Push For Bullets Not Children
Bush’s daughters are alive and well, NOT because of any care provided by the country. Privileged children don’t have an issue with health care, only underprivileged. The way the economy is destroying our middle class, more people will be wishing for assistance.
* Among the 50 U.S. states, Texas ranks … 37th this year; it was 39th in 2005 the nation:
1. # 46th in children living in poverty in 2005 (1 in 5 Texas children lives below the poverty line).
2. # 47th in per capita spending by the state mental health agency in 2003.
3. # 47th in dollars spent per child by the state child abuse and neglect agency in 2004.
4. # 48th (in a three-way tie for last place) in teen pregnancy rate in 2003.
5. # 49th in percentage of adults with a high school diploma in 2005 (1 in 3 children does not graduate).
6. # 49th in percentage of children with health insurance in 2005 (1 in 5 children is uninsured).
* Yet we’re 27th in per capita income: SHAMEFUL.
Jeb Hensarling, (R) 5th District Texas, claims SCHIP is a “wolf in sheeps clothing”. As in all Repub claims, SCHIP is a burden on the poor. ?? What??
Sheila Jackson Lee, (D) 18th District Texas, is “outraged by President’s threat of a veto” just because it may accidentally cover some adults. Children “will be thrown under the bus”.
Pete Sessions, (R) 32nd District Texas, it’s all about three earmarks and a “loophole”. When the voice went up to pass HR976, Sessions complained that at “Quorum is not present” ….. Sessions asked for another ‘recorded vote’ when the Ayes won the voice vote. Sep 24, 2007: Rules Committee Resolution H. Res. 675 Reported to House. Rule provides for consideration of H.R. 976 with 1 hour of general debate. Measure will be considered read. Bill is closed to amendments. Providing for the consideration of the Senate amendments to H.R. 976
It’s all about 10 Million Children without health insurance. It’s NOT about earmarks. Bush will allow only an extension of the current law, inadequate as it is. This bill has language addressing children of illegal immigrants … Oh My what a shame … the bill could be tip toeing toward the much feared “Federal Health Care” ghoul. Those poor Republicans are afraid of responsibility again. Stalwart Republican ‘bible thumpers’ are exercising ‘brotherly love’ by NOT recognizing ALL their brothers and sisters. How many faces of this fundamentalist debacle do we see here? Anti-Abortion Pundits allow more unwanted, uninsured, abused children to occupy the saddest level of American society, how many of these loudmouths adopt these unwanted waifs? Go figure why they skimp on health care for those waifs? Their most radical minions actually bomb clinics that serve more than just ‘family planning’, they assassinate doctors, too. Denying the smallest of our population basic health security is the most abominable stand any human can take. On top of that, Bush can veto this bill in favor of his demand for Billions of dollars to keep our war weary troops. This is politically organized genocide of the poor.
SCHIPS Appropriates $9.13 billion for fiscal year 2008 vs. $459.6 billion for the Defense Department in FY 2008
This greedy bastard would rather send our children to Iraq & Afghanistan to be maimed and killed rather than cover the children we have left with what’s left of our Health Care.

well no one better give me any crap for smoking..looks like i am paying for everything that rightfully our government should be paying for. IF Bush doesn’t veto this . I watched some of the debate yesterday…it was so rediculous ! They dragged out the most 50’s ish type of talking points…the boogey man of socialized medicine..omg, the notion of how awful welfare is OH THE HORROR ! Its just sad , that the health of people is profit center. period. Why is the usa , the only civilized country in the West that hates its people so much ? We need a single payer program, as long as there are profit centers in health care , it will always dished out in a miserly fashion. Lack of access to health care for ALL will be the demise of this country further into an OLIGARCHY.
we find money to kill people , we can find money to help people.
If corporations paid their taxes , for starts we would have a budget surplus…..

Bush will veto it the GOP will be proud of themselves and the children will suffer. If any of these pricks didn’t have insurance to take their kid to the doctor or hospital they would make sure that the government provided sometig.
It seems really arrogant to me that Bush and the GOP are so against this, we pay for their over bloated salaries and full health coverage for them and their families. I say we make the politicians pay for their own insurance and let them join the ranks of all Americans.

I believe in giving a handout to those who find themselves in need; however, once someone gets something free - they tend to expect it. Whatever happened to having only as many children as one can afford? In my state, we are raising everyone’s children…from their birthing costs to preschool, school breakfasts and lunches, health care, grants for college - all gratis! There is definitely a large contingent who realize the incentive to staying poor, having large unsupportable families and staying on the government tit versus those families who have fallen on hard times that a bill like this covers. I only support it for those who need it as a stop gap-not live off of it as they do other government programs. Trust me, these slackards know how to use them and I am tired of it.

Caren:
The expansion is for the working poor. I would not consider working middle class families slackers. It amazes me how so many in the republican party are against this since Bush campaigned in 2004, on the expansion of the SCHIPS program to include more children. This has absolutely nothing to do with welfare.
It’s shocking that Bush has been signing executive orders for states to increase their program as recent as February 2007, and then he publicaly denounces what he has asked for and signing.
Typical bait and switch by Bush. We saw it here in Texas and Texas children suffered for it in great numbers.

Oh good grief. Anyone who has had the opportunity to access these so called government hand outs..knows a few things. It is not lucrative..it is barely enough to get by and the level of intrusiveness is beyond demeaning. Our system pits person against person , while the most elite benefit. Good grief. Its this administration that has pushed abstinance only programs - hence more pregnancies, more need for safe accessible pregnancy termination..Don’t you see what they are doing ? Any ONE of us..no matter what you have in the bank or stock market may need a meal …you wait and see. All you who put down the poor. You may walk a mile in their shoes someday..it could happen to you. Agreed there are a sm. minority of those who might exploit the paltry system we have to care for the needy..But studies have shown that the Reagan’s cadillac driving welfare queen is a myth..A MYTH.
People open your hearts. Open your minds, connect the dots..do you think you are better than anyone else because of your bank balance.
And NO people do not expect hand outs..once they get them I call BS ! Listen to our nimrod president..he thinks working 3 jobs is just great. What they fail to say is that most of these jobs carry NO BENEFITS. The cost of food is rising…Does it bother you so much that children might get their meals at school ? If it does i suggest your heart is shiveled like a peach pit..and your selfishness shallowness and inability to see what the elite are doing to pit us against each other is severely impaired. If it weren’t for capitalism run amok the planet is an abundant place. TOO MUCH LOVE AND KINDNESS IS NEVER A BAD THING. People are basically good . There is no original sin, people like to create , produce , feel effective.
sorry to go on and on…but please realize no one chooses poverty for the fun and profit..jeebus !

Just one more thing…what is true. The poor are the most generous..you watch. When Captain Bunny pants and the war mongers plunge us into economic chaos. Those who know how to get by on less, you will find I garentee it are the FIRST ONES to give and share what little they have. They have had so little to protect. They have experienced the humiliating need for the kindness of strangers..and guess what…it makes them KIND. We americans are so disgusting to eachother..so hateful, cruel, greedy..it makes me fuckin sick !!!

Well I guess I’m just going to boil this down to one thought:
Republicans = family values = ignore the children.
BS on their myopic rhetoric.
