The Bhutto Ultimatum – Musharraf Must Play Ball
Bhutto ‘ultimatum to Musharraf’ By Barbara Plett BBC News,
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has given President Musharraf 48 hours to respond to her demands for a power-sharing deal, media reports say.
Uniform off
She also wants a pledge to remove legal obstacles currently preventing her from becoming prime minister. Until now Gen Musharraf has said he will abide by the constitution when it comes to his dual role as president and army chief. Some say this means he will take off his uniform by year’s end.
Defections
Analysts say she was alarmed by the Supreme Court’s decision last week allowing the exiled opposition leader, Nawaz Sharif, to return to
But there are growing defections from the ruling party and crucially, the Supreme Court might rule that his re-election from existing assemblies is unconstitutional.
The drama accelerates for Pakistan. This giant chess game plays a critical role in how the United States addresses it’s Middle East responsibilities. Responsibilities that include ramping down the US role in middle eastern politics. US corporations have been allowed to dictate US Foreign Policy toward their own gain. This administration has endorsed this … American, Afghan, Iraqi, Lebanese and Pakistani populations have been victimized by deceit at its most outrageous.
The we know who the criminals are. We know that Republicans continually demonstrate that law does not apply to them. Aren’t we tired of “the devil made me do it” mentality? Why is this tolerated? Nixon’s “I’m not a crook” statement, in the face of overwhelming evidence, seems to be the Republican mantra. Are those who support this ‘mantra’ blinded by the same delusion that they, too, are above the law!?
