Alberto Gonzales Resigns

I can’t say that this is a surprise or a big secret; most blogs posted the possible resignation last Friday. Although I am very pleased about Gonzo’s resignation, I am a little bit curious about the sudden house cleaning in the Bush administration. After all we are speaking about Bush the man who has done and continues to do everything opposite of the American publics’ wishes. So why now are the rats jumping?

It has been suggested that Chertoff will replace Gonzales. I don’t know if that’s a good thing. Probably not, we are after all replacing stupid with scary.

  • The official said Gonzales submitted a letter on Friday saying he had decided to step down, but the announcement was withheld until he met with President Bush at the president’s Crawford ranch. His resignation will be announced at a press conference scheduled at 10:30.
  • Gonzales’ resignation marks the loss of another Bush loyalist at a time when his support in public opinion polls has been lagging. Though Bush had voiced continued support for Gonzales, a longtime ally from Texas, the attorney general’s support in Congress had withered after a series of run-ins that prompted some lawmakers to allege he had committed perjury.

I hope Leahy continues on with Gonzo. His resignation should not get him off the hook of his obvious perjury to the committee. However, I don’t think Gonzo’s will say anything besides “I can’t recall.”

The press conference will have all the Bush hallmark statements: “Gonzo has served me well”; “Gonzo is a good man”; “Gonzo has been a good friend”. I’m sure there are many more Bush BS statements that will be made.

Bush is going to have a very long line of ex-admin officials looking for pardons at the end of this reign if there is any justice in society. On the 2nd anniversary of Katrina, pushing Chertoff into the limelight as a possible AG is as vile a thing as this crew has done in a while.

YOu are so right this administration will and has a very long line of pardons.

I have seem Chertoff name appear several places as a rumor. Which I hope it just stays a rumor. As far as Bush having compassion, he has none. Therefore Chertoff as a slap in the face would be Bush’s style.

Good morning, Don’t miss what Glenn Greenwald has to say about how this reletes to the democrats - His is the first article on Common dreams .org and and i guess he is on salon as well - He nails it big time - in article called Dems responsibility now..

In that at least in my mind and my words., the dems have made too many excuses for too long to justify and excuse their aiding and abetting the Bush Criminal Cartel. Basically he says the same thing. who among us, really believes that dems have not colluded all along with this administration…Roberts , Alito, you name it.

And Chartoff doesn’t just scare me - he reminds me of Stalin/Hitler/ (insert tryrant here) - re animated and i would put nothing NOTHING past him. The man radiates pure evil too me from inside a TV screen

Thanks for the recommendation, I will check out Glenn Greenwald’s article.

Chertoff has done many thing behind the scene in this administration that are very Stalinesk. He should scare us and I hope it is only a rumor that was running around D.C. last Friday evening.

A regular reader suggested Bush may ask John Cornyn to replace Gonzo as AG.

It makes sense: Cornyn is a Bush loyalist, he’s from a state with a GOP governor so there’s no chance the seat could become Democratic and he’s a moron.

I hear that this morning and spit my coffee on the floor.

It does seem logical but Perry would have appoint a repug to takes Cornyn’s place. I’m not sure Perry wants to get involved in that since he plans on running again.

That kind of checkers would be a sure shot for a dem to get Cornyn’s seat in 2008.

I’m thrilled to see go go gonzales out. However, I’m tired of seeing the street level criminals get it. I wanna see the labushanostra kingpins in orange jumpsuits. I wanna see g’dubya and his limp dick do the perp walk…

The scientifically impossible I do right away
The spiritually miraculous takes a bit longer

It will be national holiday if anyone in or associated with the Bush administration ended up in an orange jumpsuit.
