Why Not Dennis Kucinich?
The primaries are where the public can shout for who we want and not who the power elite, in the back rooms want. Our primary votes need to get the attention of the power elite, who drool and stumble to shake the hands of the first tier for the photo op, or for an inaugural invitation. To the power elite and their system of greed and power, I say, times are a changing baby.
I have commented that I did not want to waste my vote on Kucinich because he would not get the nomination. But, that is flawed thinking. If we all think like that then it’s true, and real change will never happen.
As I surf around the web, I have noticed an increase in the number of people who are pushing for Dennis Kucinich. So I started to look at several things that have been going on to get some clarity on the Kucinich push.
Let’s start with the main stream media or as some call it the “main scream media”, from the very beginning they have focused on Hillary Clinton as the front runner and Barrack Obama as her main challenger. Obviously they picked the democratic ticket in January 2007, before anyone declared that they were running. They occasionally focus on John Edwards, but that was for his hair, Ann Coulter crap, or his house. Trivial crap. But then, that is the MSM. According to the MSM, these are the first tier or in Edwards case the first tier border line candidates.
The media has focused so much on these three, the rest of the candidates are left fighting for attention, case in point Dennis Kucinich. Kucinich who in a recent complaint to ABC, stated that the poll numbers they report on do not include his numbers, only Clinton, Obama and Edwards. That is a far cry from fair and balance journalism that the MSM says they practice.
As you read through comment sections of blogs and on line journals, you will see a constant tone of irritation and dislike for Hillary Clinton. Statements such as “she won’t get my vote;” “I am tired of the Bush/Clinton revolving door;” or “I don’t trust her;” my feeling on Hillary is she panders to the crowd she is standing in front of and I agree with all the above quotes on Hillary.
Obama and Edwards have their faults but their messages are on point with many issues that concern the voting public. However, they too have not made themselves very clear on important issues such as health care. They have published plans but they are still lacking the inclusiveness of all Americans.
Which brings me to Kucinich, he has a plan for health care. Kucinich is the co-author if HR 676 which is a not for profit universal health care system. The point is, Dennis is not putting a plan together as he goes around the country campaigning, he has one on the floor. He is far in front of the first tier candidates on this one.
Kucinich has an eight part plan to restore the middle class. Also much to my surprise Kucinich is a member of the AFL-CIO, which to me makes him more aware of the struggles of the middle class and the need for unions.
We have all seen the current administration destroy our constitution and limit our rights, Kucinich has a plan for restoring the Constitution, he calls it Securing Constitutional Democracy. I haven’t heard the first tier candidates say they would restore the Constitution. Hell, they’re not even doing their Constitutional duty now regarding Bush and Cheney. Which brings me to another on of Kucinich’s bill’s, the impeachment Cheney; Kucinich as been the only one in Congress standing with 75% of the public on impeachment.
Here are two statements from the Kucinich web site that the other candidates are not even mentioning:
- As many law professors have noted, the “Unitary Executive” allows the President to exercise unfettered powers previously only known to monarchs and dictators. This administration has claimed the right to jail, torture and then kill individuals with no judicial or legislative oversight. The administration has claimed the right to abridge or ignore laws passed by Congress with no judicial oversight through its use of “Signing Statements.”
- Note that too often the Congress and other candidates for the Democratic nomination have been complicit in allowing these erosions of our liberties to take place. Dennis Kucinich is the only candidate to have voted against the Patriot Act. He did something the others should have: He actually read the bill just as he did the National Intelligence Estimate before the
Iraq War vote. As a result he voted against the Patriot Act as well all the other right-robbing initiatives by this administration.
Here’s a new concept, Kucinich wants strength through peace. Hmm…..what does that mean strength through peace? This is, now, a foreign concept for
- How to Emerge From the Neo-Con and Neo-Liberal Nightmare of the Arrogant Use of Power
- We need to understand the connection between peace and the environment. We know that life on our planet is threatened by the twin threats of global warring and global warming. They are linked, and we have to understand that as we cognize the world as being interconnected and interdependent, we know that resource wars are passe and that the focus on sustainability will create peace.” –Dennis Kucinich
- The Cold War belief that peace comes through strength is as obsolete as the Edsel. In an interconnected world of trading partners afloat with nuclear weapons, war is unthinkable. The Europeans have turned away from the catastrophic wars of the last century which took over 100 million lives to embrace a new understanding of diplomacy and dialogue as well as a new understanding of patriotism. So must the
United States . The world depends on it.
To those three statements, I say bravo Dennis Kucinich.
Here is what
So that brings me back to my original question, why not Dennis Kucinich for president?
If you are as serious as I am, for real change, let’s get behind Dennis Kucinich and show the power elite that money and media attention can not always win the presidency.
Go to Act Blue now to contribute to his campaign.

Great post NYTexan!
I think Kucinich has some good ideas.

I think he does. I did the post to bring some attention to him. I am very tired of hearing about Hillary.

Great post. Its true, everyone says they’re for “real change”, so why not nominate the ONE person who has never compromised in his quest for changing the U.S. for the better? And great point about the primaries being the one place to make a statement. With the growing dissatisfaction with the GOP, this may be the only chance for a candidate like Kucinich to have a real shot at the White House running as the sole Democratic candidate.

Becky:
Thanks. I really think that we can make a change if we do it early. I think the top tier is planing on history for low turn out at the primaries so back room deals put Hilary up. It’s time for us to take control.
It should really concern the democrats that the GOP is hoping Hillary gets the nomination. We need to wake up early this time and not after they are in office.
Thanks for coming by and sharing your thoughts.

You go, girl!
I agree 100%: why not Kucinich? The only reasons I see are the special interests like the military industrial complex (Le Hill’s bread and butter) and AIPAC, along with the MSM, have a decidedly different agenda prepared for us in 2008.
Of all the serious candidates on the Dems side, I think Kucinich speaks for me. Barring Gore entering the race, Dennis Kucinich is my favorite. Certainly not the Hillary monster.
August 26th, 2007 at 6:26 am
Why not Dennis Kucinich?
Because he will not win. Besides the Democrats, DK will not attract the middle, the swing voters which politics is all about, the swings.
Democrats dont elect Democrats. Republicans dont elect Republicans. The swings elect our elected officials. And if the Democrats would put DK up to the swings, we lose. It is that simple.
Also, even among Democrats DK scores low. So if by chance he would get the nod, the excitement needed for a Democratic win would be lost.
In short we would have another Nader election, and another republican administration.
God bless Dk for what he is doing, but lets get just a bit of reality into our decisions and thoughts.

John,
Screw you. Seriously. Not supporting a candidate who has the ideals you are looking for and will actually help the country because YOU believe he cannot win is exactly what is hurting this country. If you want to waste your vote on a candidate tha has no business runing this country simply because you think they can win, go right ahead. Whore away the most important thing you have as far as your political presence in this country is concerned. You’ve obvioulsy learned nothing from doing this in the past. It is people like you who feel the need to waste their votes on people who are not worthy of them who are DESTROYING this country. “Words cannot express how much I hate you guys.” - Cartman.

For the 1000th time Nader did not lose the 2000 race for Gore , Gore won , by votes and Supreme Court installed Bush - We had a coup. Will you please get that through your heads, those that still are singing that rediculous tune.
OK we have this ONE party system. The Corporate Business Party, The game is rigged. We the people bitch and moan..want to believe the myth of the Dims. They are for the people, they are better than the rethugs..ARE they ? are they really ? Look real carefully at history . ok there are a couple , a wee few shinging moments. BUT all and all both parties except the Neo Cons of the last two decades..(that includes Clinton play to the extremes of their bases) Clinton played to both parties extrems. And got an impeachement proceeding for his trouble
Anyhow - recently many many Democrats became Independents..lots of them. I think that Kucinich ought to consider going Independent. He really out to, the Democratic Machine is not going to allow his agenda to advance - the people however just might rise up. Oh you say a spoiler ..oooh Noooo. Hey people do we want democracy or not ? Not matter who gets in there…they are gonna do what they want to do - that precident has been set and not corected as of it. Whether its a rethug or a top tier Dem.
This is why I probably will not vote..I will not vote for Hillary. NO way. I am a registered Green/Independent anyhow. Because the Greens are the people who most reflect my values.
August 26th, 2007 at 10:55 am
Oh another thing, Clinton used Extroidinary Renditions…do you think for one second, these Dem Candidates are going to give back the Signing Statements and the Excutive Orders and the Patriot Act..all mechinisms of fascism ? DO you ? Hillary is already saying Malaki should be removeed. Obama bless his heart is saying go into Pakistan..though in fairness, he did say he would talk to people first. Until we see how broken and corrupt the system really is - we only perpetuate it. We aide and abet them ! Is that what we want. ..I don’t Some would argue that even being there makes Dennis corruptable..I am not that cynical yet..though it does give me pause.
Washington is a disgusting place nowadays - the founders would roll over in their graves at the Tryanny allowed to go unchallenged.
So therefore hope that Kucinich surprizes the bejeesus out of everyone…He does call himself Seabiscuit for a reason.
August 26th, 2007 at 11:59 am
Yeah, fat chance of Kucinich winning the nomination. It’s been a three-horse race from the start–according to the people who tell everyone else what’s happening.
I’d like to see him run independent. Otherwise, there probably want be a point o voting.
August 26th, 2007 at 12:36 pm
Proud is correct.
Nader didn’t cost Gore the keys to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., an activist SCOTUS, of five banana Republicans wearing black robes (three of whom play golf with Poppy Bush) cost Gore the election.
Shit, even the Bushlicking New York Times admitted upon completion of a six month investigation that Miami Dade tossed as many as 7,000 uncounted ballots in the trash and didn’t bother to count them after the SCOTUS decided to halt the vote count.
August 26th, 2007 at 12:57 pm
All:
The point of the op-ed was just not for Kucinich. Edwards sufferes the very same neglect because of the media control of coverage and their choice of the front runner.
As Joby states in their comment”
“It’s been a three-horse race from the start–according to the people who tell everyone else what’s happening”
Who are thee people telling us to to vote for? That’s the point. Voters need to wake up to the fact that this is the same media who pushed Bush down your throats for 2 elections.
The other point was that the primaries need to be where our voices are heard. I have provided link to Kucinich because he seems to be the candidate that thinking people are doing their own research and dismissing the media crap are looking at.
My op-ed was not an endorsement of anyone but a point of reference that many voters are still listening to the media instead of using their brain. If you want to contribute fine. If you want to learn more fine. The links are available.
If everyone follow the script of the media then we will end up with Hillary and you will not see a change.
For some, who obviously did not read the whole op-ed and just read the title, one would have seen the the problems with the current system is that non first tier options are being neglected by the MSM. Why because they know most are too lazy to do the research.
BTW: To equate Kucinich or any of the non first tier candidates to Nadar is lazy GOP thinking. Which is what they count on.
August 26th, 2007 at 2:05 pm
Christopher:
Thank you for adding to the Nadar comment and educating others.
To say that Nadar helped Gore loose in 2000 is a non informed statement. It is what the GOP would like people to believe who don’t want to find out the truth.

I my view, there is no difference between what the dems and repubs DO when they hold power. They SAY slightly different things, but DO the same old.
Out with BOTH of the two parties of the apocalypse come election day!

go to his website..hit the contributor button now poorly placed on the top right corner. He takes NO corporate donations. buy some stickers, buy some stuff.get the word out . He may yet go independent. you never know. Its not time to be practical..its time to dream and put our money where our dreams our..vote your conscience..do not pick out of an EVIL or lesser evil selection. Believe. write , speak - he is the man who would give us sustainable living, an improved manufacturing base. A peace agenda , a justice agenda..at least donate as a way to give the status quo system a jolt. The “he cannot win” ..stuff is BS and self defeating and when the status quo wins..we all lose again
..what do we have to lose really ? its that bad nowadays. you think hillary is ANY better then BUSH - she is NOT. Please for your own self..at least when its all said and done..you can say i tried my best to make it happen.

There are many things about the way Kucinich runs his life and his politics that I like, especially no corporate donation. He is not beholden to lobbyist either.
Hillary is a continuation of Bush. If people can;t see that by now than they are just as blind and uniformed as they were when they voted for Bush in 200 & 2004.
I can say with great pleasure, that I have never voted for Bush as governor or as president.

3.
want the votes counted too dammit, i am currently a registrered Green, but am getting the form i need for the primaries. It is about the primaries. I too am disgusted by the notion of “electability” what happened , if it ever existed at all to in depth discussion of platforms. This may well be my last vote. I have ethics about colluding with the status quo etc. My primary vote may be it. why ? because i feel that america is devolving so fast , like all over reaching of empires in the past that our destruction from within is inevitable UNLESS we get dramatic change. The powers that be - the elite Oligarchy wants none of that of course. Therefore..it appears and it does not take a crystal ball that things are gonna get way way worse and mighty painful in america before out of the rubble , this country gains some humility and love for its own citizens and restores our CONSTITUTION - we are sadly adrift…but i have voted all my life..and have come philosophicallly to the brink of seeing it as a pacifiyer for the people..(its who counts the votes that has the power and our congress has not addressed this adequately yet) In fact we had a coup in 2000. All that being said - i just read on Bloggernista that the HIP HOP constituents are organizing mightily for PEACE and for voting !!!..this is very heartening news to me. Russel Simmons and others endorse Kucinich many Obama of course and good on em !
…imagine. But really We must have a paper trail, a day off for voting, and more civics in school. NO shannigans at the polls.
We got a lot to do. My conscience says Kucinich..and i have to give my best shot to make that happen , then at least i can say i tried..i tried. - yes i am pissed at both parties. But i have to give it at least one last shot..therefore i have the form on the way..to be a dem on primary day..after that..i will cross that bridge when i get there.

MSM are corporate entities. They care not for the american people. Their only care is for their bottom line. Sponsors. Therefore, we the people must hold a corporate revolution; boycott Disney, GE, Time/Warner, and whoever else markets their product on these hypocritical stations. Let’s show these assholes they don’t run the country, we do! In fact, get rid of your cable TV. Don’t watch TV anymore! Listen to balanced radio NPR for your “mainstream news”. All cable is anyway is a tool to keep our minds occupied on the wrong things and to keep us from noseying in on the corruption that is purposely and systematically destroying this country. My vote is with Kucinich 100%. It was in 2004, it will be again. Regardless of this lingo that he’s not electable. That’s bullshit! If he’s on the ballot, he’s electable. Hell, even if the powers that be choose to deny him his Constitutional Rights and leave him off the ballot, I’ll just write him in. After all, I have to live with my vote. I couldn’t live with myself if I failed to vote for the one who deserves it, and quite frankly, nobody else comes close. Dennis Kucinch is incrediblly wise, courageous, fair and patient. He said he’s going to campaign all the way to Denver, and if any of us consider ourselves a true patriot, you will cast your vote him.
