25 Count Indictment For Reserve Officers and Civilians

Well it’s about time that someone is being held accountable for at least one of the many U.S. screw ups in Iraq. Today (CNN-Washington), U.S. Deputy Attorney General Paul McNutty, announced that “five Army Reserve officers and two civilians were indicted by a grand jury on Wednesday on charges they steered more than $8.6 million in Iraqi reconstruction funds to a contractor in exchange for kickbacks that included vehicles, jewelry and real estate”.

I’m sure Mr. McNutty has been working on this indictment for some time now, and we know grand jury’s can take awhile. I think it’s stunning that this comes one day after Paul Bremer’s grilling yesterday on the Hill.

Because Bremer was doing what I don’t know, over $8.6 million was taken right out of Iraq under his nose, shameful. Bremer stating yesterday that the money was just passed out to jump start the economy. Who’s economy? Not Iraq’s. Between Bremer’s incompetence, these five officers and two civilians (I’m sure there are many more), and Halliburton, you have to wonder how the hell the Iraq people can trust us. Hell I don’t trust us.

Hopefully the Dems will keep up their hearings and we’ll see more indictments.

Bush goes ballistic about other countries being evil and dangerous, because they have weapons of mass destruction. But, he insists on building up even a more deadly supply of nuclear arms right here in the US. What do you think? How does that work in a democracy again? How does being more threatening make us more likeable?Isn’t the country with
the most weapons the biggest threat to the rest of the world? When one country is the biggest threat to the rest of the world, isn’t that likely to be the most hated country?
What happened to us, people? When did we become such lemmings?
The more people that the government puts in jails, the safer we are told to think we are. The real terrorists are wherever they are, but they aren’t living in a country with bars on the windows. We are.
